No twist at the end if i remember correctly, but still an amazing book :)
Its the first part in a series, but it has a "closed" ending so you do not need to read the rest (if you don't want to that is)

Confederacy of Dunces, a novel by John Kennedy Toole. One of the funniest books ever written, with a tragedy behind it. The author became despondent because he couldn't get it published and committed suicide; his mother later found the manuscript and vowed to get it published, which she did; the book went on to become a best seller and win a Pulitzer Prize.
