Service Pack 2 isn't suppose to care about wat kind of keys u use anymore
have u ever installed Service Pack 1 prior to this service pack?
my guess is that this error msg is triggered by that bcos Service Pack 2 also includes everything from Service Pack 1

I don't think it's so odd. I think he is using the original blacklisted CD key. He must be using it without SP1.
@ulyssesdraco, if you change your key then you can update your Windows.
i just read the "reasons for getting sp2" here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...ain/sp2top.mspx
and it's not that useful. i don't have wireless, and i use myie2, so popups are not a prob. wat other reasons should i get this for?
There is a ton more reasons there. B)Quote:

like wat?
so far, sp2 is only good if ur a noob old man who just wants ease of use. windows firewall sucks monkey balls. and no one uses ie anymore. and all these security features limit my assesiblity more than it does for the "hackers". and i don't use bluetooth or wireless. so do i need this update?

Got a question. Does installing SP2 mess up alcohol 120%. I've gone and recently formatted the comp, had to download an integrated version of xp professional since my old xp professional disc suddenly went and died on me (we're talking it sounded like it was slicing up the cd-rom drive for some reason and had corrupted files died, damn you alienware). I'm just asking since I'm reinstalling everything and I've gotten 2 BSODs. One was using Alcohol to mount adobe premiere 7.0 pro, another happened after I rebooted after finishing the installation of premiere pro.
there's an alternative to the tcp/ip patch, its just a registry edit
sourceQuote:
“[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]”
Here, there should be a DWORD value named “TcpNumConnections” – if not, create one, and set it’s value depending on the number of connections you want. “0xfffffe” is the value used for unlimited connections, although you may want to set the number far lower if you wish to preserve Microsoft’s original intent of slowing the spread of worms. I would recommend incrementing the number slightly (remember the value is hexadecimal) and seeing if you still experience a “maximum connections reached” error before bumping the value up any more.
If you don’t find the “TcpNumConnections” value in the “\Parameters” folder, you should check all of the folders in the “\Parameters\Interfaces” folder for the value as well.
If you’re still experiencing problems with 4226 error messages popping up, you can try a patch (at your own risk), downloadable here:
http://lvllord.de/4226fix/4226fix.htm
i have a contradicting information about thatQuote:

or perhaps anyone who has, would tell us the result?

nice to see microsoft finally came to its senses and finally removed raw sockets. This does break a few programs like nmap and a few p2p apps but it can be worked around.Quote:
What new functionality is added to this feature in Windows XP Service Pack 2?
Restricted traffic over raw sockets
Detailed description
A very small number of Windows applications make use of raw IP sockets, which provide an industry-standard way for applications to create TCP/IP packets with fewer integrity and security checks by the TCP/IP stack. The Windows implementation of TCP/IP still supports receiving traffic on raw IP sockets. However, the ability to send traffic over raw sockets has been restricted in two ways:
TCP data cannot be sent over raw sockets.
UDP datagrams with invalid source addresses cannot be sent over raw sockets. The IP source address for any outgoing UDP datagram must exist on a network interface or the datagram is dropped.
Why is this change important? What threats does it help mitigate?
This change limits the ability of malicious code to create distributed denial-of-service attacks and limits the ability to send spoofed packets, which are TCP/IP packets with a forged source IP address.
never really had a problem with the 10 incomplete connections everyone is gassing about. why is it affecting only certain p2p apps badly. maybe the protocol they use should be made more efficient, just a though.
:P
same here :) and I'm averaging 100 connections at any one time, peaking at 267 over the last 24 hours (emule)Quote:

Same here, I don`t see any problems. Even thought I have mange to trigger it...
right now, is the tcp limit to 10 the only problem with sp2? and how do i make it slipstream?
The problem occurs when you get 10 (or more if you've patched a higher number) consecutive failed connections. So if a p2p prog tries to make a connection to a sharer who's connection slots are full, that counts as a rejection. As soon as you get 10 consecutive failures like then your program is locked out from making any more connections (assuming I've understood things correctly). Things may appear ok at first but once you've triggered the block, as you disconnect from sharers I believe you may find things slowly deteriorating.
P2P clients could overcome this problem by accepting the connection, then sending a "not accepted" packet and then disconnecting. Emule may work this way, it is not an efficient concept but may explain why it doesn't have the same problems.
So for instance if you are using a version of bittorrent which uses a separate instance for each torrent you have 10 (or your patched number) consecutive failures for each torrent. On the other hand if you are using a client such as ABC which has one program for all torrents the limit applies to all your torrents combined so it is much more likely to occur.
There must be a way round this other than the patch. I think I've possibly thought of one myself (and it is very simple), but since it involves software rewrites there's not much point in revealing it here (PM me if you really want to know). As soon as the worm writers work it out the restriction is useless anyway.
Here's a guideQuote:

how to slipstream sp2
seems like a rather long winded process unless you are going to install it on lots of machines.
@lynx what is this miraculous work around we need to know :o
just download ntlite and that has some steps and you can slipstream and create unatteneded cd. it is really easy to use
thanks. i think i've done this b4, but i didin't know wat i did was called slipstreaming. so are there any other probs with sp2 rite now? i'm installing sp2 on a virtual pc. cuz if this 10 connections issue can be fixed easily, i'll update my current os with sp2 as well.
is there any way i can slipstream sp2, xp, and the tcp fix to alow unlimited connections all together?
Look here. I made a post on that..Quote:

No... Makecab comes with winxp.. there is a link to modifyPE there and it does not seem necessary to use it.
All you have to do is use that "fix" on tcpip.sys. Compress it with makecab and replace it with the one in the i386 folder.
how do i use makecab?
instead of the makecab stuff, could i just do this?
http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/oemfolders.htm
and put the tcpic.sys file in the system32/drivers folder and have it automatically put in?
can u let us know if this work as i am gonna make an unattended xp cd later with all my programs in it and will put the fix in as well if it works.Quote:

OK I have 3 torrents being downloaded using Azures ... but no its not connecting to none of them its on redlight and the tracker status is OK ,
Is there a way to fix this issue or did I do something wrong when I applied the patch ?
