leon - had the dvd for ages but never got around to watching it until now. Turns out it is pretty decent. I've never wanted someone to open a door so much lol

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang- Robert Downey, Jr., Val Kilmer, Michelle Monaghan.
A noir-ish thriller/comedy that's completely self-aware and breaks the wall between viewer and actors from the very beginning.
I'll watch anything with RDJ in it and was pleasantly surprised by Kilmer and Monaghan as well.
In strict adherence to noir convention, the plot is convoluted and murky but it doesn't matter as the dialogue is snappy and tart, loaded with non sequiturs.
Monaghan is easy on the eyes, Downey and Kilmer are frankly hilarious.
A fun way to kill some time.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) on TV.
I laughed out loud. They make a great duo, imo. The whole movie was good throughout, but the ending was surprising and great at the same time (not to mention hillarious, especially Steve Martin's line, lol).
A must watch for comedy fans, imo.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Paranormal activity
Definitely the most scary move I have ever seen

It's like racing around go-cart track ; it's a little silly , you never really get anywhere and the finish is a bit disappointing but at least you enjoyed the ride.

.
( Relatively) early Steve Martin ,nothing matches up to his stand-up or apperances on SNL but he used to make some damn funny movies.Check out the Jerk if you haven't already seen it.
As chalice quoted elsewhere " Pointy birds so pointy, pointy"(OK that's The man with Two Brains but The Jerk is better " I was raised a poor black child").

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Dread (2009) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1331307/
The IMDB rating has gone down quite a bit from last week, but I would give it a 7.5 . It's a horror movie with likable characters that keeps building until the end. I kinda liked that it starts slow and still was able to hold my attention.
Give it a watch if this kind of movie appeals to you.
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Yeah, I've heard of the Jerk. Even watched a couple of mins once. Will give it a go (eventually).
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
No, give The Jerk a shot asap, Martin. Seriously classic movie.
As Idol said, great quotes. Right up there with Blazing Saddles for quot-ability.

One of my favourites. The opening scene with the children pretending to be magicians is wonderfully shot, and the convention breaking narration is also something I enjoyed.
Last I watched was No Country For Old Men. I think the attempts to tie it up at the end were a little futile, perhaps they should have cut the last 20 or so minutes. Cinematography was quite beautiful and I heard they based the character of Anton Chigurh's hairstyle on a patron of an 18th or 19th century brothel that they found.

First of all I have to say that I'm not really a visual effects fan. Although I prefer movies based on a good story this is really something new. I can't say if it will change the movie making business but it's a very interesting point of view. And certainly the visual effects are more than impressive it's an experience I never had before
I don't want to spoil the fun of waiting for a movie but I have to point 2 things.
a) The full title is Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience. Trust it prefer a 3d theater it makes a difference
b) The story is simple but not bad at all

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Law Abiding Citizen -
What a top film... I listened to everyone bang on about how good it was and kinda took it with a pinch of salt... last night's piss up fell thru so I ended up sat in, bored... decided to grab it and have a looksee... I was NOT disappointed.
Basically Gerard Butler plays a guy who's wife and kid get killed and raped in front of him... the prosecutor (Foxx) does Butler's character over and decides to keep his near perfect prosecutors records intact instead of doing the right things and trying them for the crimes they actually did commit as he wasn't sure if he would win them or not...
Jump 10 years into the future to now, when Foxx has a wife and daughter and 1 of the crims accused of doing over Butlers family is about to get the Lethal injection... it seems they didn't actually realise who Butler was or what he was capable of...
I'd give this film 9/10 and would have given it 10/10 if it had ended a little differently... who really was the bad guy in the film??
I think I'm gonna go watch it again now after this

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Law Abiding Citizen 7.5/10
I found this movie fascinating up to the point where it started to get overly non-realistic.
Spoiler:
Show
They exaggerated it with the underground tunels and all that other crap. I think the movie would have been a lot better if an accomplice was behind the trigger and if the main character decided to kill himself at the end instead of being killed by Jamie Fox

I just thought it was a great "fill an hour and a half film" that kept me wondering and guessing right up until almost the end... which for me was a little bit disappointing. I actually agree with the comments contained in your spoiler... those were exactly the same things that kinda wasted it for me too

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
The Hunted (2003) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0269347/
The only man who can stop unstoppable gone off the deep-end ex-solider/government assassin is the very man who trained him or run through the jungle forest.
You take one Oscar winning director ( William Friedkin -French Connection ,The Exorcist),two Oscar winning actors ( Tommy Lee Jones ,Benicio Del Toro) add some award winning eye- candy in Connie Nielson and what could possibly go wrong? How about just about everything.
First Jones ,who I consider seriously over-rated , is totally unbelievable as the hard nails almost preternaturally gifted tracker/assassin trainer .For crying out loud he can't even run believably unless I didn't get the memo and all uber tough guys run like spastic little asthmatic girls .
The rest of the film is just as implausible ,equal parts contrivance and stupidity.
The only one that comes out relatively unscathed is Neilson but she is stuck in her usual role of on token female .
Give it a solid 4/10 not a total waste of time but almost.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
The Woodsman- Kevin Bacon.
A paroled child molester tries to make a life outside prison.
Almost everyone hates him and he still hasn't decided whether he hates himself.
Bacon somehow makes his character wrenchingly sympathetic as he nearly reoffends but struggles to become "normal".
Although dissimilar in nearly every way, The Woodsman brought Secretary to mind in the way that both movies look at marginalized people without flinching or sneering and make the viewer face the humanity underneath the weird.
Not fun but worth watching.

I just watched The Final Destination (2009) yesterday. I think its just OK, when i finished it, i only remembered those creative death scenes.

I thought about watching Old Dogs but I decided to stick my hand in a bucket salt and razor blades instead because frankly it seemed the less painful thing to do.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Watched Ponyo subbed yesterday. Yet another ghibli masterpiece, wish more animation studios would take this as an example for story telling.

yes, Hayao Miyazaki is awesome and i liked ponyo as well as all his other works. princess mononoke is still my favorite of his though.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Yeah Avatar was weak...really weak....maybe when I see it on HD I might change my mind, but I don't it, it was a so-so movie, sure the visuals were jaw droppilng, but that doesn't make a movie.
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
i have seen 2012. "Great Movie"
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Driving Miss Daisy
I'm just gonna tell the things I didn't like (cause it's gonna be shorter):
Morgan Freeman's laughter as a little over the top, imo. Sure he played a southener, but still.
I like Hans Zimmer and for the most part the score was good, but 15-20 seconds of it were so 1988 instead of being so 1948.
The rest I liked, a lot.
Then I watched Army of Darkness (1992)
I loled. Funny and creepy at the same time. Didn't like stop motion for skeletons, though (I thought it wasn't even around in 92, tbh). All in all a good movie, that's a bit overrated at IMDB, however.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
In the theater: The Blind Side. It was AMAZING!!!
At Home: The Hangover. Just as funny as it was in the theater. Although I could do without the male full frontal

If that's the case SOB, I recommend you to watch it in 3D. I don't know how much of a difference it's going to make now that you've already watched it, but one thing for sure is that you would have liked it a lot more if you saw it in the cinema.

Zooey Deschanel rocks

Invictus , great feel good movie .

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
District 9
I enjoy the atmosphere of the movie especially at the begining with the documentary style. The story is good, the main character is great, and there are some great action scenes.
More than I expected 7.5/10

It just seemed like Pocahontas with special effects
I wasn't impressed, to say the least.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
(500) Days of Summer
I was looking for a romantic film to watch it with my wife and I picked this one. Overall it's a good romantic movie appropriate for the occasion. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is really a sweet boy but Zooey Deschanel wasn't good enough for him. The "boy meet girl" story was presented in a unique way and I really enjoy the music. My wife didn't like the end probably because isn't so happy for a romantic movie

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Surrogates, very weak movie imo. Unrealistic plot, bad hair cuts. Just allround bad sci fi.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
District 9 - I'm just gonna say that the movie is WORTH watching
