Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
There are a few movies that I know I shouldn't try to watch them from the title or the poster or just reading the plot.
Usually I never watch them but unfortunately sometimes I have friends that have different opinion.
The movie was Surrogates. Never again 2/10

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
I tried to change the thread title to "What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it? And assigning a poorly defined numerical value doesn't offer any insight and therefore doesn't count as an opinion" but I discovered titles are sadly limited to fewer characters.:( ( True story).
Maybe I'll create a sticky defining what is an acceptable post so that people will have one more thing that they don't read.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
As is often the case with Terry Gilliam's films, the real star here isn't an actor: no, it's the unique, vibrant, imaginative fantasy world. Parnassus' magic mirror is one of Gilliam's most intriguing concoctions, a world at once beautiful and terrifying, a backdrop against which the doctor and the demonic Mr. Nick compete to win the soul of anyone who enters. That much of the action plays out in the dull, rickety "real world" makes the mirror realm all the more magical.
Heath Ledger shines as Tony, the mysterious con man caught right in the middle of the bet - as do Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell. The transitions between the four actors is seamless - Heath Ledger is the "real" Tony, and the others are different aspects of his persona revealed by the mirror. This physical representation of Tony's manipulation of others - presenting himself differently to different people - deepens his character, adds another layer to the conflict. Gilliam made the sweetest lemonade from the bitterest lemons.
The rest of the cast is strong, notably Christopher Plummer's deeply flawed Parnassus.
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus is a beautiful fairy tale for adults. It's probably not for everyone, though. It's dark - not at all surprising if you've seen any of Gilliam's work. It explores the very worst of human nature, and ends with only the faintest glimmer of hope. If you can handle that, you should love it.

If you're referring to senegal's post here you may as well call it "What is the latest movie you watched? (I think spamming may get me my privileges back)". :ermm:

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Daybreakers. It was too short and lacked action. 6/10

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
I think that is the first time I've ever heard anyone complain about a movie they didn't like being too short.

No I was commenting on the two posts immediately preceding mine.I mean I go to typically stupid lengths in an ( doomed) attempt to discourage this stupidity and the very next ones do it again.
Btw I think senegal's was suppose to be a joke or a jab back at how anal I am.

Don't let anyone jab your anal, Idol. :noes:

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Avatar 3D in IMAX...
saw 2D within a couple of days of its release. bt, went to 3D in Imax.
wonderful experience, bt, I was a bit disappointed as there was not much of a difference between the 2D and 3D one.
bt, a gr8 movie all in all. Hats off to Jim.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Last one I saw was Up in the Air. I give it 7/10. It was an ok movie.

Time travelers wife, it was boooring

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
I re-watched Taxi Driver a couple nights ago. I remembered the story and really enjoyed it when I watched it the first time. Now, I believe I have become too desensitized to be as impacted by it as I was before.
I still thought it was good, just have to wonder how it would be received if it were to hit the theaters for the first time today. Earlier rating: 8.5/10 now...7/10.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
"The Road". I read the book and it was very very good. I knew that the movie wouldn't live up to it but I watched it anyway, it was ok but it didn't have the same effect on me as the book.

Read the book if you get a chance.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Law Abiding Citizen, I thought it was good up until the ending. The ending was horrible.
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Sans soleil - great experience. Mind-bending, extraordinary film about memory, time, life on this planet.
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Watched Breaveheart because of MBM. I'm ashamed to say I hadn't watched it yet.
Screw historical accuracy, I don't watch movie to learn history. I watch them for them to inspire me to read history books. :P As far as the movie goes, it was great. I still prefer Gladiator, though. FReedom is an important thing nonetheless.
And I watched X men Origins: Wolverine. Wow, this movie is soooo cool. I am now going to grow longer sideburns. I don't understand how Wolverine doesn't have any hair on his arms, though. Must be some sort of mutation... :P
PS: The movie sucked bigtime, but I got what I wanted, stuff blowing up, car chases, etc. I wasn't expecting more anyway.
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Redline - nice cars etc. but acting was not the best

Keep lowering your expectations and you'll soon have a Will Ferrell film directed by Michael Bay to keep you mesmerized.

the edge of darkness. t'was awesome.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Glad you watched and liked Braveheart, Martin! It's funny you mentioned Gladiator, because I had seen BH before it and thought Gladiator was trying to be BH. Later I grew to see that each stands on their own merit. Sitting here, I am having a hard time picking the better of the two. I cannot think of a better epic film that has followed in their footsteps, though.

Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Well, I'm not objective, really. I prolly saw more in Gladiator than most people since a big part of the movie is involved in my field of study (not the fighting, though). Was just having a discussion with my friends from college the other day about which movies we see differently now that we're here as opposed to say in high school. Gladiator came up and rightly so.
Like I said BH is not a bad movie at all. Mel Gibson's lunatic expression actually comes in handy there.
Anyway, I watched Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo yesterday. If you're a fan of Saving Private Ryan you owe it to yourself to watch this. Because it's even better in terms of, well everything, the story, the brutallity and even the acting, IMO. And it does carry a message. Just make sure you have the stomach for it first.

The only ones that warrant any consideration are 300 and Kingdom of Heaven . I actually enjoyed KoH quite a bit , but I seem to be in the minority on that one. Fantastic supporting cast anyway ,Liam Neeson,Jeremy Irons, David Thewlis , Eva Greene and although you never see his face Edward Norton .
Plus it's Ridley Scott:happy:

Something to keep an eye out for is Forty-seven Ronin , although it's still in very early pre-production and may never see the light of day.
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
Yep, I enjoyed Kingdom of Heaven too. If you haven't seen it yet, MBM, you should.
-
Re: What is the latest movie you watched and what did you think of it?
I have seen it, but now need to give it another viewing. I will report back after I have. Looks like a contender.
300...meh. Not in the same league with the others.
Edit checked a few trackers for Taegukgi found it, and downloading. I have been grabbing a few off the beaten path movies lately. Which tracker was best for this? I'm not begging, but trying to find out if there is a reliable source tracker that I missed.
I checked PtP, PTN, CN, Asia Torrents, and grabbed it on Demonoid. There were sources on almost all of these, just none that had many for the BRRip (2 GB) size. Demonoid rocks, yet again!
I have been watching movies with a bit more of a critical eye lately, Martin. Give me a few more decades and I might be somewhere in Idol's league (assuming he doesn't get ANY more knowledgeable in the meantime) :D.

Secret Cinema has the same 2 Gbrip and Karagara has both that and the HD DVDR ( around 7Gb) but neither are well seeded.
Martin's probably got better sources though 'cause he's cool.:yup:

You know, you're right. Mine was actually an 8.13 GB HDrip from HDbits. :naughty:Sometimes it's good to be cool, I guess. I was told that this was one of the movies to watch in HD. I'm glad I did.
PS: My goal is not to be like Idol. I'll never be THAT old. :P

If you ever got bored, or decided to do something constructive with your time (it could happen...) You could put together one kick-ass blog from your movie/tv experiences. Seriously.

I don't hold much to that new -fangled com-pewt -er gibberish .If parchment scrolls were good enough for my daddy then they is good enough for me.
Dang where did I put that quill anyway?
................................................................
Back off topic I just watched WA(delta)Z aka The Killing Gene.
A mediocre mishmash of Se7en and Saw/Hostel with a lot of atmosphere, a dab of character exposition and hardly any story.
What story there is though centers around a world -weary cop saddled with a new partner who may or may not be up to the task (sound familiar) They are in pursuit of a torture killer.
Starts off OK but doesn't really go any place and the part of the rookie partner played by Melissa George doesn't really serve any purpose.Basically just there to witness the veterans descent which may sound like a purpose but in this case wasn't.
The ending also attempts to plum the same emotions as Se7en but nowhere near as effectively.
Then it just ends:unsure:
With not a whole lot of tweaking could have been much better but it isn't .I give the Se7en wannabe a 4.5
Also of note some really strong violence/gore but I never found it as offense as Saw/Hostel/The Collector since it was fundamental to the plot unlike those where it is the entire plot.
Will say that they did a great job of passing off Dublin for NYC though.
Almost as good as Zombieland did in passing Hamilton off as California:P
