Some pro one use megui. But it is complex. Sometime I use TMPGENC to convert video file. And I think this is the best way to convert video file.

Convert X to DVD is super.

Have mostly used ConvertxtoDVD for converting to dvd compatible videos.

Its usually not good form to transcode but Handbrake is a decent option. I'd recommend encoding from the source to what you want the file to be.
