It's not for anyones safety, it's so that uT can force all those people who have avoided 1.7.x to upgrade and so some trackers can flex their muscles.
If you check the uT changelog now, they have changed it to say it affects all 1.7.x and 1.8.x builds. This is a different story to the earlier change log that stated 1.6.x builds were also affected. I wonder if we'll get a changelog for the changelog.
uT staff are not above lying to get what they want, and for some reason they wanted everyone on 1.7.6. Listing 1.6.x in the changelog was a lie, because they knew when they posted that it was not affected, and I know they knew :P
Notice how all 1.7.x and 1.8.x versions are affected (since april last year), and yet this bug is dicovered by accident and not by a large number of users being crashed. Even if you are attacked by this, you can leave uT happily running with the general tab open and it will not crash. It requires you to view the peers list while connected to the attacker to crash.
I'm guessing that 90-95% of the time, you are doing other things while uT runs in the background, which means you don't need the peers list open and uT will not be susceptible.
A few sides have been spreading FUD about this issue, including uT staff, when the reality is that this is not that big a deal at all.
Whatever the upgrade is for, it's not for safety.
Re: Join Forces Against Utorrent 1.7.6
tooo late im already on the darkside
Re: Join Forces Against Utorrent 1.7.6
The claims that it affects 1.6.x are back in the changelog.
If they can't decide if their client is bugged or not, would you trust their latest version?
Re: Join Forces Against Utorrent 1.7.6
I don't know whether to :D or:cry:
On 2nd thoughts i think i'll :frusty:
Re: Join Forces Against Utorrent 1.7.6
Damn i wonder if uTorrent has some ill intentions. Starting to feel differently about the upgrade. Not in a good way.

Quote from What.cd? announcement:
We have confirmed that 1.6.1 is not affected and will be unbanned shortly

lol that is old news, also they have allowed 161 becuase its is allowed on waffles, lol they cant check so they need to see from other sites, but that will nothing change since 161 and all version except 176 are banned from BCG,TTi,ScT,NB and many more..
so if u are member on any of these sites u can only use 176 so there is no point if whatcd and waffles allowed 161:D
Re: Join Forces Against Utorrent 1.7.6
actually BCG hasnt banned it yet, and we are still discussing it, we havnt actually banned 1.7.5 either but i think thats going to be a definitive later, but as for 1.6.# we dont know what we are going to do, that many different stories atm.
Im sure you will find out in a few hours if we have/havnt banned the 1.6.# versions.

Wasn't there a front page announcement that you banned all versions except 1.6.1? I would ask uTorrent what's really going on here.
