That's not the funniest part.
The funniest part is that they got pwnt to fuckery in the vietnam war, only that doesn't count, because it was just a conflict or whatevs.
Hence, America has never lost a war. And some of them manage to say this with a straight face.

I actually purposely left that one out, because they had lots of other little wars there too, that they didn't mention, in secret, on the side, like the fact that in 11 days in 1970 they dropped more bombs on Cambodia, a country they weren't actually at war at, than they dropped on the whole of Japan in World War 2. They also invaded Thailand and Laos, two other countries they weren't at war with for good measure.

I think it's safe to put those in the "win" category, then. :01:

It's not really a win if you weren't at war with them in the first place? If you extrapolate that out why are you so pissy about Pearl Harbor then? If it is so perfectly reasonable to just rock up unannounced and bomb the shit out of other unsuspecting countries, why bawl when it happens to you?

What? Also, what?
I didn't know you have to be in a war to win anything. If you have a lot pent up frustration from not being selected to participate in "Ask an American", I'm the wrong guy for this line dance. Last I checked, Pearl Harbor was a naval base and I don't see much wrong with one military attacking another military location, especially considering that the U.S. was plenty involved in the conflict beforehand. My general stance is that I do not care for militaries, period.

Drat....and double drat
And here was me laying out my best baited cheese and all. Well I feel quite ripped off. Personally I have always been amazed that the Americans placed an oil embargo on the one nation in the hemisphere that was equal in military strength to them, forcing them to the brink of economic collapse, and then were appalled when that nation attacked them. It didn't take a psychic to figure that one out, and the Japanese had a habit of doing it, they nailed the Russians exactly the same way in 1904 at Port Arthur.
War has always interested me, more the politics behind the war, than the wars themselves, although some of the gaffs along the way have been truly marvelous too. One of my all time favorites was a little logistical gaff from the crimean war. It involved getting some much needed boots out to the troops, 10,000 boots in fact, they were packed on two ships, 10,000 left boots on one ship, and 10,000 right boots on the other. Take a wild guess what happened next?

Both ships got raided by 100 angry giant centipedes?

All the troops were dead when they arrived, and were buried in new boots.

It was ironic because they'd ordered 10,000 spoons? (but really only needed a knife)

They got caught in a thick fog and confused each other for enemy ships. They exchanged cannon fire, but when all the ammo ran out, each began to fire boots at each other. Both having realized the critical yet humorous mix up, decided to unload 50 % of their payload, correcting the original design flaw of their deployment. 9,482 boots populated the waters that day, and the French surrendered.

They forgot to pack the laces on either boat?

It's simple: the Americans are the ones keeping score. :snooty:

Unswervingly proud Americans are a must at any forum - those slant eyed devil internet harshists have got a lot to answer for.

I think I know how it happened. In the olden days you'd always have someone, like cheebus, or you, or even me, ready to point out any and all flaws of american gun laws, take on religion, environmental politics and so on, and so forth in the drawering room.
Now that we've flogged those dead horses into oblivion, we're all kind of meh about it. So they've got no one to fight.
And without that, they're turning on themselves, much as I imagine the country would if they couldn't pick a fight with someone else.
-
Re: I think I know what's up with Idol.
If we're to preserve any merkins on this here bored we need someone ready to carry the same arguments over and over for eternity, no matter how stupid the arguments.
If only there were someone absolutely mental like that, ready to step in, at least three times a week, twice on saturdays.
Would have to be someone really dense and mental, though. Anyone normal would just bugger off.

You're right.
Once Busy said about having a gun in each of the seven corners of his house and provided everyone with at least seventeen memes which are still used to this very day, I lost interest in the whole 'americans are wrong about everything' deal.
It's not only Dave who would fit your above descriptive, btw.
The would probably still be able to pull it off.

Maybe we could convince :dave: that Squeamous is actually an American?

Re: I think I know what's up with Idol.
I'm still pro-gun, if that counts for anything. I don't carry one anymore, but used to have a Heckler & Koch .45 with me along with a concealed carry permit. I've got a few guns in the house, and feel they are more of a plus than a negative. I have taught my wife how to shoot (perhaps not the best idea I've ever had :fear: ), and we bought a shotgun for her for home defense. She is FAR more comfortable having the ability to defend herself when I'm not home than she would be without. My kids will learn gun safety as soon as they are old/mature enough. I am sure we will be adding a gun safe (a responsible thing to do with kids) soon.

Given absolute power, I'd dis-invent guns- as long as I could dis-invent thugs, murderers, and rapists, and anyone else who imposes their will on weaker individuals.

That's kinda my point- I'd rather have the option of thwarting an attacker than being at his "kind" nature... The idea of "give 'em whatever they want" is not always an option. some people enjoy harming others.
EDIT- Do you think you could rationally talk :dave: into leaving? We''ve tried for a full year. some people you just have to shoot to get through to...

I still have one unchangeable argument Mr. progun, why is shooting death the second cause of death in america, for instance in 2009 gun death in America from all causes took the lives of 31,347 Americans, that is more than 85 a day or 3 an hour. Nowhere else in the world comes remotely close. There are countries out there with populations in the billions who aren't popping each other off with such efficiency.
But then most countries don't take the meaning of gun ownership to having your own private arsenal. ' I've got a few guns in the house......and bought a shotgun for home defense'. Not the most accurate of weapons after 15 feet and guaranteed to make indiscriminate holes in your home and maybe your kids too, if you wife is panicked but your choice there.
It's this whole me against them mentality and the general fear whipped up by the media in the states, nowhere else in the world do you see the general populace constantly bombarded by constant threats.
Do you know why you need to arm yourselves? 10.5% of the population is homeless, 37 million of them are kept moving by the police like a great fucking herd, another 15% are below the poverty line, they have a choice if they get ill for instance, get medicine or eat? how is that for a choice? That is before you even tackle the drug problem. Now in the U.S. we don't tackle our drug problem with rehabilitation programs which drain the taxpayers, we just lock the degenerates up away from godfearing folks eyes.
