If you're using a terminal it won't have a GUI and as a result, pictures are useless.

sorry for ny ignorant, is VPS = terminal?
i have been told that it will look like my desktop,
and all i have to do is 'play' around like i do on my HD.
amm.. well, all that is true if we talking about windows server.
with linux.. (grrrr..) is like 'gibrish'(*) for me.
anyhow, i will not rent a (part of) linux server till i feel i understand it good enough, no point of waste one month
renting just to learn how to install utorrent and what ever
need more.
with some picture i'll be more relax with no panic.

The best way to practice is get a VPS with Ubuntu Server/Debian :)

great thread ! really helpfull
Can someone help me? I canīt install the vnc-server app, all i get is a long line, ending with "Error: failure: libstdc++-4.0.2-8.fc4.i386.rpm from updates-released: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try."
Iīve installed the two other, and it worked smothly.
What is wrong?
thanks to everyone who contributed!
It's probably too late for the stroj and bennez, but i had some of the same problems as them so i'll list some of the things you could try. For stroj's problem i would guess it's missing fonts or something that causes the vncserver to fail to start. Sometimes it'll give an error when it starts but if not it will be written in a log file. The location is located in the .vnc folder and it should tell you the name, look at it and try to find the errors. As for the failure on the rpm, this can probably be fixed by editing the updates-released.repo file in /etc/yum.repos.d I found that they will edit out some of the mirrors with a # sign and they will also put a $ sign in place of the release that you need to change to release you're on.
Hope that helps some people cause at first i spent hours trying to get things to work, but when i figured out what was wrong i set up another one in 15 minutes or so.
Thanks very much!, it helped me a lot!
scratch that
thx m8 ,very nice
Thanks a lot. It worked for me :yup:

I got this message when trying to install libstdc++4.0.2-8 .

Hey just a quick question, would this work on any dedicated server? or is this guide for leeware.com's servers, and will it work with centos 4?
sorry if its a stupid question, im just a little confused..
balbaid: that message means libstdc++ is already installed, most likely through yum. If you want to install the newer version, you can type this first: yum remove libstdc++. But I wouldn't advise doing that as it can break compatibility, the prefer method of installing new apps is through the package management system (yum).
vizard: the general idea of this guide will work on any linux system (install vnc, wine, utorrent), but the process for each is slightly different. For Centos 4, you have to add some extra repositories first (instructions here), then this guide should work just fine.
Thank you for this.
Has anyone managed to install utorrent on centos without problems?
Nice tute. Thank you.
