Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
Problems I solved to get this working on a Debian Linux Server from server.lu:
Use vnc4server instead.
Could not install wine at all. You will have many dependency errors and what not. This is how you can solve it.
First install:
apt-get install lmza
(This is to avoid the dpkg error)
Then follow these instructions and install this repository. I used the Lenny one.
http://www.lamaresh.net/
For all those having the Error: Access Denied
I almost pulled my hair out with this one, I had my download directory in my home folder and it just wasn't working, I even chmoded and sshed and changed all the permissions.
Do NOT name your directories with separate names i.e. "My Downloads". Keep it one word to prevent this error.

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
I used this guide to configure seedbox. But my ISP has done various problems. Sometimes I had a slow speed with FTP, sometimes I could not even connect to the vnc, sometimes connected, but nothing can be done, the low speed. At last time speed FTP fell to 10-50 KB. I configured vpn between me and seedbox, and everything was working as expected. I think such problems not only for me. I suggest to add another guide on configuring vpn.

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
Thanks a lot naq.
I ordered a CentOS based server and it is due shortly. So I wanna clear a few doubts before it arrives. I am absolute noob in linux hence these question.
1. On centoswiki the xstartup had a lot more lines to it like geometry and stuff. So if I go with this tutorial will i be getting a desktop with icons n shortcuts and stuff ?
2.If a bunch of guys together taking the server so how do I assign fixed hard disk space (quotas) to each user.
3. Each user should have privacy. i.e, the others files are not to be view how can i achieve that?
4. If a person leaves how do i remove the user account and the assigned disk quota.
Hoping for some help.

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
I get to the utorrent point and then it's a no-no. Using debian 5.0 I downloaded utorrent and wined it.. installation came up and I seleceted to not install utorrent. Problem is.. it's not running. I get a bunch of error messages in Wine from options and stuff in the install but that's it.
Any ideas?

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
great guide
im 2/3 of the way through and most things have gone well, i have fluxbox and utorrent up and running and can kind of connect through FTP.
My issue is I can only connect to FTP when i edit the vsftpd.conf file and set ssl_enable=NO
If I set ssl_enable=YES
and then type vsftpd i het
500 OOPS: SSL: cannot load RSA private key
The key is there i know i remember creating it but something has gone wrong, how do i kill the current key and create a new one?

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
There's a typo in the guide (well, there's numerous errors & typos in the guide) and it's been a while but the line should be:
openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout /root/vsftpd.key -out /root/vsftpd.pem
Edit: You shouldn't need to kill the current key, it'll overwite it.

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
It could be a case of X Windows starting up, but fluxbox not starting up. Might want to make sure fluxbox is installed, then go through step 5 again to make sure it's configured correctly.

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
Hoping someone can help.
I have a server.lu box that I have set up as a seedbox using this guide. It all works and all was fine till last friday.
Up until then i was connecting to the box and ftping down at approx 600kbps regularly, now i connect to FTP and can only transfer at 5-10kbps at most.
I think its my setup on the server as I can d/l from http://www.server.lu/speed.test at 150kbps easily which would be on a box in the same datacenter im guessing. Plus the torrent speeds are fine in utorrent
Has anyone encountered this before or can point me in the direction of a fix?
I have tried
- restarting vsftpd
- changing the ftp port
- enabling/disenabling SSL over FTP
- closing utorrent on the box and ftping (no change in speed)
- differant FTP clients
Im wracking my brain trying to figure out whats gone wrong

First of all, great tutorial :)

Re: NaQ's Complete Setup Guide for Linux Seedboxes (Fedora Core/CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu)
Very very helpful guide, I had setup my seedbox and it was working fine, then all of a sudden about a week ago I had VNC close down on me and each time I try to connect to it, it just says "Connection closed", so I thought I would kill the process in Putty, so I type in "vncserver -kill :1" and it comes up with this message
Quote:
Can't find file /root/.vnc/hosted-by:1.pid
You'll have to kill the Xtightvnc process manually
I've posted the same question on this forum http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1258328 and they have tried helping me out, but I now have an even bigger problem!!!! I followed the steps below, but when I typed in "iptables -F" Putty just froze, and now I am unable to connect to my seedbox

To find out, type the following in Putty while login as root to list the filter table of iptables:[/INDENT]
Code:
# iptables -t filter -L
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
The above output means there is no firewall. If your output has entries under the 3 chains (INPUT, FORWARD, OUTPUT) and/or has more chains, then we'll need to flush the iptables:
[INDENT] List the table again to make sure it's empty. Then try to connect with VNC Viewer again.
I have no idea what to do
