Ok when I went right into the bios it had it running at 100X11. Its still there I have changed NOTHING. It was set to 1100. I dont know why it didnt autodetect to put it on 1.8 or w/e it runs on but it didnt.
I have my HDD and my CD-RW on the same IDE controller. The master is connected to the HDD and the CD-RW is connected to the Slave...Is that bad?
Are they both on the ends of the IDE cables and both set to master on the jumper? If so then it should be fine.Quote:

There on the same cord...so they cant both be at the ends. I have one cord with 2 spots. The master spot is on the HDD and the slave spot is on the CD-RW. Should they be on diff cords completley or what? I just dont know why I'm getting that stop message.
Maybe I could format C: before I put it into my new computer.
oh sorry i thought u said u have them on different ide cables sorry im too tired to read. U could try formatting it on ur other computer maybe it will work...
Maybe...But then if it dont then there too much shit to do to get it back to running on THIS computer even to talk to yall..ugh.
CLOCKER, VB...get over here lol
If I were you I would put the IDE hard drive on its own controller. I don't know about your mobo, but with Dell's proprietary mobo, it has the IDE and CD drives on completely different cables on the motherboard.
NO! Haven't we already expalined why this won't work? <_<Quote:

Man you really have ADD, don't you?
Yeah, thats how my dell is. I just dont think that affects why I'm getting the damn stop error.

I didnt say that...rossco did. And I dont remember you telling me why it wouldnt work either.

When did u explain why this wouldnt work? And i actually do have ADD so dont make fun of me.

ok first things first.... i think the pot in the virtual account grew enough for us to all win about 1000 dollars because we all bet that it would have AT LEAST one problem lol....
*virtual account pays up everyone 1000*
second.... bigdawg check what i posted
did you read ALL the manual? and yes, I mean ALL of it...including those "troubleshooting" sections that are sometimes useful.....Quote:
actually..... Computer Manuals are your friend (more than google)...
let me quote on my mobo manual
"Q: Why does my AMD 133FSB cannot be autodtected by the mainboard?
A: Due to AMD CPU design, CPU FSB 133 will not be autodetected by the motherboard. So user need to set the FSB manually to 133."
[edit]my athlon xp is a 1800+ t-bred, and runs at 266...thats why i gotta set up to 133[/edit]
because this thread got WAY 2 long, i don't remember what processor you bought. I'm assuming it should be a barton 2500 or something around that....where the FSB is 333, then you have to set the FSB to 166 (my best guess)...
and dude.... DONT mess up with multipliers before getting the system up....
bad idea
Dawg, get your HDD on it's own IDE cable.
On my board there is a primary IDE channel ( it's socket is blue) and that's where the HDD plugs in.
The optical drives (CD,DVD) go on the secondary IDE channel (black socket).
Have you set your boot order yet?
Your FSB should be set to 200. To start, your multiplier will be like,10 or 10.5.
Seems to me that I remember you saying something like "Oh Clocker, you crazy, the multiplier isn't is important as the FSB, which can be set in 3MHz steps..."
When was that?
Yesterday? Day before?
My, how time flies....
lol exactly. I didnt even mess with my FSB untill I got stuff running..which I never did.
Also good guess its a 2500XP but its running at 1100 because the FSB is at 100X11. I didnt want to mess with anything like I said though.
GODD I dont think anyone knows whats wrong...When I put my XP disc in and press F1 at startup to conitnue, It gives me that damn stop message so I cant format C: drive or install windows or nothing.
why the FUCK do you have to press F1?
@ Clocker, Alright Ill try to Put everything on its own cable. And also I NEVER said anything about how you were crazy about the Multiplier, I just asked you what the diff was between changing the Multiplier and the FSB. Mr. Elmo gave a very good explanation and I now know whats so good about changing the Multiplier. Which I CAN do. Shouldnt my FSB be set to 166 to run at 333? Im running a 2500Barton.Quote:

I dont know. When everything comes up, It says how much memory I have and stuff. At the bottom is says press DEL to enter BIOS or F1 to continue.Quote:

What should my startup order be? Right now its Floppy, HDD, CD. I dont even have a floppy in this system, and it always says floppy error, or something like that. I changed the startup to have it boot from the CD first, but It wouldnt load anything, just a blank screen. And it didnt beep...it beeeepeeeeepeepeeped..like wierd lol. So I reset the CMOS and could get back into the BIOS.
boot order should start with the CD!
Your mobo manual should have a "beep code" to tell you what that means.
If you don't have a floppy installed make sure that you disable "Floppy seek at boot"
Your boot sequence should be CD then HDD.
Also disable "Halt on all errors"...change that to "Halt on no errors".
Yeah...but when I did that it didnt come up with nothin at all. And then when I pressed F1 for continue..I got that damn stop screen....which I dont think has to do with the order, because it was doing something with the cd...and got a stop errorrrrr ugh
btw.... did u set ur jumper straight?
Alright ill change the halt thing clocker. Where do you change the floppy seek? what part in the bios?Quote:

wat bios do you have?
Um I have them on the same cable...and the CD is prob set to master even tho its on the secondary connector thing...but STILL I wouldnt think that would produce the stop code.
@ Clocker, I see nothing in my manual about a beep code.

normally dont mothberboards say press <X key> to continue hte first time u start it up after it has finished detecting CPU and RAM and drives and stuff? Im pretty sure nie did. Then it takes u to the bios then i never saw it again. Maybe ur bios reset jumper is set wrong?
ok unplung ur hdd and leave the cd drive on master and try to boot up with cd-first
yea thats what i was thinking....maybe its put to clear instead of keepQuote:

Check that for sure.Quote:

CD goes on the secondary IDE channel.
If you read further on DWk's "benchie" post link, it has a complete description of how the BIOS was set up and Windows was installed....
I am posotive that the jumper is set right...u move it to clear it, then move it back, and then turn the comp on. I followed the directions very good. Ok I will try putting them on diff cables and stuff...be back in a couple of mins...please..no more betting ;) ...prayers will do tho
WRONG.... u move it to clear, wait a few secs, put it back to keep.... and turn it on
Turn on/ turn off what?Quote:

Not the PSU, surely.
sry forgot we're dealing with bigdawg ;)
turn off computer, move the jumper to the clear stage, wait a few seconds, move the jumper to the keep stage, turn on computer
and let us know
Again...WHAT?
Turn off power.
Remove jumper and place in the clear position.
Leave for a few seconds then put back to the keep (normal) position.
Power up machine.
You don't need the main power at all during the clear CMOS process.
ah oh well...my mobo needs me to do that in order to clear....maybe a security thing
-edit- nevermind.... i think im being affected with what im drinking
As I remember, setting the CMOS jumper to clear creates a short circuit which allows the stored charges which remember the BIOS settings to dissipate. So it doesn't need power to do that.
yea..... i aint gonna drink this shiat anymore lol...its 2 strong for a 5pm drink....
ok bigdawg....anything new?
Set the FSB to 333.
Connect the HDD to IDE0 'master' - all by itself.
Connect the CDRW to IDE1 'master'
Set the boot sequence to be CD before the HDD.
Then start the computer again and autodetect the HDD.
One question. What is on the HDD now? Is it blank?
You guys are no fun at all :P .Quote:

We could have had his system running at half its FSB
If I was a mod i'd edit VB's post for entertainment purposes :D
