winamp its free and just plain whips the lama's ass.
i like the 2 version of it as it is more lightweight.
I agree I like winamp 2.91. Winamp three is nice, but I'm still more of a fan of winamp 2.
I Use Winamp. BUT . DFX makes any audio player sound 100% better. the difference between Winamp with DFX and without DFX will blow you away.

you can get the full version with REG key on eMule and kazaa
Winamp 2.95 (includes cd ripping and some other stuff that 2.91 doesnt). Just google it and you can find some download sites.
As for quality -- Foobar is the best, very low CPU usage, a lot of flexibility in settings, handy tools, small size, absolutely free:
