A modded version of Ultimate.

From what I know there are virtually no differences between that and Professional for the home user.

Although there are other differences, the major difference between HP and Ultimate for the home user is Bit Locker encryption.

Paid,always pay for a OS.

Ultimate, for no real reason other than I like to be able to do all windows offers should I ever want to.

I use the Ultimate, but I am of the opinion that the version for home use or proficional Home Premium are the best choices.
