Ok one thing I dont understand. I am going to get a fx5600 card in order for me to run games which require the pixel shading in Direct X which my current Mx420 cannot handle.
Now my question is that why does Homeworld 2 and games like Simpsons hit and run require Direct X 9, work on my computer, yet games like Prince of Persia and Dues Ex 2 which require Direct X 9 not work?Please enlightne me as I need to know whether I really need a new card.

the other games were built in dx9, but didnt take advantage of the new features
but games such as Prince of Persia; the sands of Time use the new shaders, which ur card doesnt have
yes, get a new card, but not an fx 5600, thats old and useless now
if u have 250ish to spare, u can search pricewatch.com for a 5900 ultra.

Try Aria for looking for decent priced graphics cards...
altVidia suggested the nVidia GeForce FX 5900 128MB which is on Aria for £233.83. If this is too high, then the ATI Radeon 9800 128MB DDR AGP is available for £217.38. Note however, this is not the Pro version.
If money really is an option, I've noticed the ATi Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB DDR AGP is available for £123.38. Outstanding price there.

y do u say the 5600 is "old and useless" ???? i know its the next generation of mx card but the 5600 is only a bit slower then the 9600.....i dont kow y tough as the 5600 has high clocked memory. just ebcuz its not a 9800pro or a 5900 ultra, doesnt mean its useless. if he had enough cash or is a hardcore gamer, then he would probably get the 5900ultra already, but judging that he has a mx420, he probably dont have that much cash to spare on a 250 dollar card and since its a mx420, hes probably not a hardcore gamer either so he dont need all taht extra powerQuote:

Well i do like to think my self as a hard core gamer as I play virtually every game released, but i havent got enough money, only xmas money so only got around £150 odd.
I am planning on getting a fx 5600 but is the ATI Radeon 9600 good? Ive heard that ATi themselves make good cards, but driver/customer support is bad. I generally want a card that would be haslle free with new games coming out in 2004 and beyond.
for that much , u can get yourself a 9600 pro or a 5600 ultra. for a bit more u can get a 9600xt w/ a free copy of hl2 when its outQuote:

Read this review. I think it is an old review of the 9600xt, but a good one. It's what made up my mind on a choice between the 5600, and the 9600xt.
