How does an iPod work?
Are you required to download the music from iTunes, or can you load any music that you already have on your PC? I've never really been interested in one so I've never even picked one up at a store and looked at it.

no you don't have to use the music from iTunes. When i bought it I thoht the same, but you can use anything, as long as you use iTunes to transfer it.
Do u have to use the iTunes software to transfer the music though?
And can u also use it as an external harddrive (store other files such as pics, docs, etc etc)?

So why are iPos'd so expensive compared to say a typical MP3 player? Just the amount of memory space seems to be the only real difference.
Yeah there bigger in HDD space, and its in 'in thing'. Everyone wants one because 'everyone' has one. Get a Sony NW-HD3 or NW-HD5 if you want a cheaper, better made, better 20GB MP3 Player.

I'm doing some prices with iPod's and other assorted MP3 players online, but I can't figure out what the different generations are with iPod's.
Example: What does it mean here that this iPod is a "4th Gen."

Gen's
1st Gen iPods are really old and only hold somthing like 5 gig
they don't have a click wheel, and it uses firewire to transfer data...
these were created quite a while ago, they just weren't needed back
then because 1. no one had fast internet to download enough music to
fill it and 2.there wasn't a decient Operating System that could hold up long
enough to transfer a file... :lol: (joke)

2nd Gen iPod's are kinda like the 1st gen with just a couple updates like
bigger hard-drive options (10gig, 20gig)
the 3rd Gen iPod was the one that really took off...
these ones have a touch sensored selection wheel & button's and with red led's
for the buttons and a blueish one for the LCD blacklight... this iPod also came with
high speed usb connector cables...

and finaly the 4th gen iPod... the first with a "click wheel" (a touch sensor with buttons intergrated into it).

The ipod is more expensive becuase design and brand.
Is a Ford Touarous when equiped the same as a BMW M5 the same price. Dont think so. They may go both as fast but the brand and design is where lots of $ goes.
Just to add to add to that, after the 4th gen came the mini ipod (5 or 6gig hard drive i ithink, they're a lot smaller and less easy to scratch, plus cheaper).Quote:

:lol: yeah i forgot bout the other types of iPods... but i've heard that the nano is a no go (sorry bout the pun) anyway there is surpost to be a problem with the ipod nano... it is said that it scratches extreamly easy, and when i heard about the scratching problem i was like wtf are they whineing for everything gets scratches but ppl have said to me that they get so scratched that the screen is distorted and almost impossible to read...Quote:
