move out or stay in ?
Should i move out or stay at home when i go to university ? my parents obviously say stay at home (bless em ) but i am unsure.
it seems that a lot of people are moving out going to University, and i feel that in order to 'gain the full experience' i should move out.
theres also the problem of whether i should stay in london or go out of london - if i stay in london i will always have my parents house as back-up if i dont like staying elsewhere, whereas i wouldnt if i moved out and would be stuck with smelly students (which i do NOT plan to be)
so have any of you got any advice ? (besides do what you think best suits you, i already heard that one)
your experiences would also be appreciated :)

Re: move out or stay in ?
There is a lot more freedom when you've moved out,lot of skill's you have to learn, cooking, cleaning, money management.
I think you should make the break!!!

Re: move out or stay in ?
ooo double thread ...maybe its a sign ..... a sign i dont understand but a sign is what it is !
when did you move out of the parents home then grippy?

Re: move out or stay in ?
I moved out when I went to uni, a fairly long way from home. Lots of my friends went to Cardiff - which isn't that far from where we live.
They had a great time, I had a great time.
The one thing you shouldn't do is stay at home. There were a few on my course who studied from their parents house and they just didn't seem to 'fit in'. Probably because they weren't in the middle of things on the weekend due to them being at their parents' house.
When you move out, you're in the same boat as almost all of the other folk on your course, everyone worries about missing friends and family, looking after yourself (cooking, cleaning etc.) and moving in with strangers but since it's the same for everyone - it doesn't seem that bad. You should definitely move out whether you decide to study in London or go further afield.
It seems to me that only a certain 'type' of person will stay at home :lookaroun

Re: move out or stay in ?
if money is a problem you can cut back on non-essentials, like food

Re: move out or stay in ?
I think you really ought to examine what you are comfortable with, Gems.
You could start classes while at home and leave when you're sure you want to.
If you are ready and want to leave, then you should try that.
As to what others think of your situation, to Hell with them; if you feel pressured to situate yourself in accord with others' views, it should only be if you honestly decide you want to-by all means, give what you see others doing an honest appraisal, but make up your own mind.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is this:
Don't listen to manker, 'cuz he's just a horn-dog on the make...
:P

Re: move out or stay in ?

You don't think what you wrote is a tad ... patronising.

Re: move out or stay in ?
don't go to uni at all, it's full of bloody students  saw a shite load of them today on the way home, with their bleached blond hair, pink shirts listening to cold play on their ipods whilst queuing for something they probably haven't earned :snooty:
uni might be kewl if everyone stopped dressing like cbeebies presenters, got proper hair cuts and didn't bang on the apartment door at half three in the morning because the silly midget bitch forgot her key

it might have been uber kewl back then, but not today, no Sir

Re: move out or stay in ?
Dave and I have got pink tops. We posted pics of them too.

It wouldn't matter if she was a little old lady, manker-a wolf is a wolf, and a gentleman will always aid a lady.
Period.
Besides, you buy chrome waste-baskets for women.
I can imagine no greater indictment, nor is one needed. :shifty:

It was a bin, buying a chrome basket would be silly.
Also, my designs on Gembs are purely cyber related. It just doesn't work out when you meet up. I recenly visited DanB, he isn't a 19 year old schoolgirl supermodel from Russia :(
Btw, obfuscation isn't allowed in the lounge - you don't think what you wrote earlier was a tad ... condescending, then.
-
Re: move out or stay in ?
Damn, I wrote patronising earlier.
Meh, in for a penny.

You should have stipulated that only people who can actually remember being eighteen should reply.
That way j2 would have stayed out of harm's way :D

Re: move out or stay in ?
And of course, this is a manx :P

I moved 180 miles away, lived in some grotty places and got into debt. Also had a brilliant time, got very drunk and passed my exams. :)
I get the impression from things you have said, that you would like to move out.
Manker is right particularly with regard to all of you being in the same boat once you arrive and get into the flow of University life.
After all, most students do move out of the family home, its traditional....its time. :)

Re: move out or stay in ?
Unless you can live like this at home you need to move out

Re: move out or stay in ?
Oh yeah....something else I just thought of....
Maybe your parents are encouraging you to stay so you won't feel pushed out, but secretly.......
Do you have any younger siblings Gembs?
-
Re: move out or stay in ?
Its always a question of money sometimes Gemb. If mom and dad help with the funds go for it . Can you go home on weekends ? You know bring laundry home and have some of moms cooking . :D

Make the break! Move out.... :01:
If not now, then when?
I couldn't wait to move out of home to go to uni, get my independence, etc.. The ones that stayed local and lived at home... well, that's just weird in my book.
Uni is the best time of your life, you can't enjoy it quite as much though if you still live at home... :naughty:

:blushing:
Dave told me, in his deep, rich, northern brogue; "If anyone asks, don't say 'owt".
Which may be a double negative
