Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
Hello!
I mostly use other protocols for my Pirating these days such as BitTorrent which is my primary network protocol, and also I use ED2K and IRC. But for singles and music I still often use my god old Kazaa Lite 2.41 client. I thought it was soon coming to an end as I have seen fewer and fewer users during 2005. But as of late I have noticed something strange believe it or not the user base are growing again.:w00t: :O Yesterday it was 3 million today I saw a maximum of 3.9 million users and currently there is 3.8 million using it. When Kazaa aka fast Track was most popular in early 2003, 5 million where using it. Maybe we will see that many users soon again if the rise continues at this rate.
So maybe Kazaa are not dying after all.:O  The question is what has happened and why are users returning??.
What is your theory??
-
Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
yea sure.
It still sucks even if there were 20 million users.

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
I dont know why everyone gets so upset about Kazaa. It is great, yes there are alot of fake files and viruses, but you have to be a complete idiot. By idiot, I mean downloading a song that is shared 11202093 times by the same user, and then there are the idiots that download exe files that are 2kb big... Who uses 2kb big exe files that arent keygens? And there is no spyware the right kazaa lite release. So just dont be a complete imbecile and Kazaa works for you!

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
I just downloaded something from k-lite yesterday b/c I couldn't find it on newsgroups. It gets the job done.

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
there are a whole bunch of files that are like 4 MB songs and they are fake.
Why use it and have a harder time tryin to find something instead of just using somethign easier.

I think that is very probable.

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
I haven't used K++ in a while. To be honest though if the problems with fake files spread (those that seem to stem from organisations such as the RIAA or MPAA) to other networks and pressure is kept up on this like torrent sites, I wouldn't be that surprised to find people jumping back to K++ considering that Kazaa remains one of the best known P2P apps.

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
kazaa is a great reference tool........to see how many people will share garbage willingly. J/K It does sometimes work for some hard to find stuff. I use it once in a while to find an old file, or some parody songs, or just to share some of the more hard to find virii, DRM porn ads and trojans that I have  It's cutting edge stuff.

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
maybe I'll give kazaa lite a go once in awhile just to see how things are going. I bet the resources are worse than ever. Even emule is faster than it now of days.

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
I moved to limewire a while ago, and I haven't returned to Kazaa yet. I'll have to give it a try!

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
OK! but....don't use "Kazaa"....use "K-Lite".
The latest version is v2.7RC1
Still uses FastTrack but uses KShield to install KMD so you don't get
all the Adware, spyware and other garbage associated with KMD.
One important feature of RC1:
The Fake Analyst Tool.
It uses the Banned IP’s you’ve downloaded to filter out any possible
(fake/corrupt) files put on the FastTrack Network by anti-P2P organizations.
:)

Yes it does. When you go to K-Lite>Options>Skins there is a method
of installing skins.
Click on the link in my post, go to About/Features>KMD Options> and scroll down to Skins for more info.
You will note however:
"It is recommended to leave this setting on 'Classic (No Skin)"
:)

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
HOld up, i cant run this program, something about K shield and its trying to find a exe file?
There is no exe file in the folder.

Re: Kazaa Slowly returning to its glory??
Ok, you need to follow the Installation Guide
Go to my link again (K-Lite's homepage) click on "Downloads" (on top) and you'll see the two files that K-Lite needs for it to install: 1) K-Lite v2.7 RC1 and 2) Kazaa272_en.exe (KMD).
The Installation Guide link is also located on the bottom.
Then you need to know where you downloaded the files to.
So what happened in your case, KShield was asking you to point to where your kazaa272_en.exe (KMD) file is located so it could install Kazaa but without the ads/spyware.
Uninstall what you have now, read through the Installation Guide, and then try it again.
Take your time and read through the FAQ's and About/Features to learn about the bells and whistles.
Also, if you have had Kazaa/K-Lite before it would be a good idea to uninstall any old programs to get rid of all kazaa remnants before you install K-Lite 2.7RC1.
You can use K-Cleanup 1.2.5 for this...then reboot.
(If you were using FastTrack before (Kazaa) and you want to resume your unfinished downloads, you could move your .dat files to a temporary location and then back into your new My Shared Folder with 2.7RC1).
However, if you happened to have any corrupt downloads (if you didn't use the new Fake Analyzer in 2.7RC1, there is a good possibility that you do) I would recommend starting with all new downloads in RC1.

Yeah, I was going to recommend you do that.
When you do, register and then post any questions in the K-Lite v2.7 Forum, and I'll look for you there (or someone else might help also).
Start your new thread by saying that you "just installed 2.7RC1 for the first time" and then your question or prob.
btw...if you had clicked on kazaa272_en.exe without using KShield, Kazaa may already have installed some adware/spyware (e.g. "Gain Network").
A good idea would be to run your Spybot/Ad-aware to be sure.
