I agree with balaam. i have experimented with win2000, winME, winXP & am back to using win98se. I have actually threw my winXP disk in the bin so there's no more temptation, it's a complete pile of shit.
What didn't you like about XP? I posted a question about this not long ago, and everyone who replied said they liked it. I'm still trying to decide if I should upgrade from 98 (original).Quote:

I used Win 95 and Win 98/98se extensivley, and I can assure you that win 98se is mutch more stable and reliable then 98 (now that dosen't mean that it's good <_< ), however I'm now using windows XP, after a traumatic experience with ME, and a quick look at 2K...and I find it to be the most stable of them all, just take the baby look away, and U've got a pretty rugged OS (not as god as LINUX tho).
So, about the original question: there are more diffrences between 98 and 98se, then there are between 95 and 98. Definitly go for 98se, specially since the price is practicly the same(if U'r planning on buying it, that is ;) ). U can get specific details about what's diffrent at microsoft's site.
I think that ME is horrible. From my experiences, after running the computer for a while having a few programs on and off, the system resources drop very low and when you click on something (like the start menu for instance) it will take like 5 seconds b4 it will pop up. I reforematted and had XP, since my computer is screwed up AgAiN, I uninstalled XP so I can reforemat again ME is still doing the same thing.....
But this site reviewed Win98SE and says it's practically the same thing.
XP is way better what are you on.Quote:

i`ve never had a problem with ME at all, no sticking or slowing down etc, i know people who wouldn`t touch it with a barge pole, but i`ve never had a hitch.
This post was about 98SE vs 98 not XP. Some like it some don't regardless.
Go with 98 Second Edition, it is Windows 98 revamped. I don't know the specifics but go with 98SE.
Well I have tryed Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows XP Professional. Even though the topic ain't really about this but I would have to say with at least 256mb+ RAM Windows XP is the best Windows OS. But out of Windows 98 and SE I would say I didn't notice a huge difference and I can't pick between the too.
Can't comment on 98 vs 98se. But I gotta throw my 2 cents in & say XP Pro is at least 50% faster & 5x more stable than 98se.
hey dude what does the term SE says second edition so second edition must be better than the first so go to win98se i use se only :PQuote:

i had regular 98 and it ran slow and horible i downloaded xp and it runs fast and smooth so i would rather have xp then 98 anyday
That's a load of bull. 98 SE is faster, more stable, and a lot more compatible with the latest programs than the original Windows 98 was.Quote:

I was begining to think that too....
Another thing about plain ol 98 is that you can't upgrade to XP from it...it's gotta be 98se.
It took me forever to find a good copy of 98se, but I finally did. Soon I'm gonna reformat and
have multi-boot: DOS 6.22 / Win98se / WinXP Pro
98SE also supports DVD Rom drives, has Internet Connection Sharing, improved USB support & power managment features.
Plain old 98(FE?) doesn't have these.
Are you positive about that? I've heard that before, but according to Microsoft you don't need SE...Quote:

I need to know because I have plain old 98, but I want to get XP. And if there's any truth to that guy's article (above), then I pretty much have SE, because I installed SP1, IE6 and every update patch that ever came out. Can anyone tell me something that SE has that my version doesn't?
I may have been wrong about that, seems so.. :">

I couldn't agree more, I hate everything before ME but 98SE is definetly the one to go for over 98.
