Lately, I've been burning music CD's and having them end up bad. They twitch in some stereos, won't play in some, and end up good in some! :blink: I use Sony 700MB 40x CD-R's. What brand of CD-R's do you guys recommend for music?
i'm currently using infinity cd's and have had no problems at all
what speed are you burning your cd's at?
i suggest burning a couple of steps down from the max speed of your burner (assuming it's above 16 speed). my cd writer is capable of 16x so i burn at around 12x.
the extra couple of minutes it takes to burn doesn't really matter and the number of errors may be reduced.
cd choice is pretty much down the the user though, most people start buying one brand and just continue, it's kinda like cpu manufacturers. most people will either haver amd or intel
I burn my music at 16x, always.
Why not CD-RWs................
cdr's are cheaper...most want to keep music they burn, why use cd-rw for music :huh:Quote:

I don't use anything fancy, generic works for me. I get the 50pk spindle for $7 (US) at Fry's Electronics and like KrackHead2k says just burn at a lower speed. I use 8x for movies, 12x for music, 24x for applications despite the cdr-drive being a 48x.

Well, I mean I could see them for backup, but for like music, you usually end up getting tired of the music on the CD-R, and then you are left with a disc of old music after awhile......

well the first few tracks with my memorax arent that good
first the first three tracks it usually cuts the first 10 seconds... for memorax

Memorex is B quality. If you are unlucky you can throw away your burned cds after two years.
Paul what do u mean? are u saying that after 2 years it is likely that the cd's will be worthless? I hope this is not the case, because my movie collection will be garbage. I use all types of cdr's philips, imation, fuji, kypermedia, memorex.... basically whatever is on sale for a dirt cheap price. Please fill me in!!Quote:

just try it and you'll see ^_^ ( dun worry, it's rw so nothing goes to waste )
and yes, cdrs DO have a certain lifespan ... 2 years is abit short tho ... last heard it was 5 years for the no-brand-type silver-blues ( lifespan varies for diferent dyes used , gold lasts the longest )
also depends on the quality of the cdr and frequency of usage.believe it or not, spinning causes the dye and such thingys in the cdr to shift/slide/whatever to the outer edges of the cdr ( stupid centripetal force , i can't even spell it ) .
lastly, always burn audio/video cds in 4X or, if possible , 2X or 1X . why ? coz the lower the burning speed, the more stable is the lazer and the spin. Hence, better sound/video ^_^

Also, when burning, try to keep on the underside of the "70 minute" mark.
Yes, it does also help to keep your speed low too, but if your trying to cram over 70min on there, your
going to have trouble B)

hmm I use whatevers on sell they all seem to work the same! As for them only lasting 2 to 5yrs???? I don't think thats true I have quit a few cd-r's that ive had longer then 5yrs some get used all the time and i've never had a problem :huh:
Always store CD-Rs in a dry and dark place. That really helps keeping them alive.
Really old Cd-Rs were usually gold dye and were usually relatively good brands. That's why those usually still work.
Top brands (Taiyo Yuden, TDK, etc) claim to have a life-span of 100 years. Much more as other brands that are usually <25 years.

I also have a Lite-On 48*12*48 best damm thing i ever got for my PC.
I have had no problems. if you have cdr's that can burn at 48 burn em at 48.
My old phillips drive was only 8X and it made the discs quite warm, this new drive i got dont even make em luke warm.
For discs, if im doing some proffesional writing then its Verbatim all the way
But i have had excellent results from a brand called DISCRITE.
BTW discrite, infiniti and the other one are all the same cd's just branded diffently.
And if u want a word of advice, you may buy a cdr with a tough white top to it, but this can be scratched off, use frosted top discs as this means there is a physical layer of plastic to get to b4 the data layer. most discs are plastic with the reflective layer on top.
Use cd-rs, I use Imation 80min, 30 for £10 and they never let me down, music or data.
