This is odd...
I went to burn a movie and my D: drive was missing. Anyone know why it wouldn't appear?

What is your D: drive? Is it a removable drive?
VB took it. He's just asking questions to avoid suspicion. :P
A similar thing happened to me, my D: drive changed to E:.

No, the disk that has HALO E: used to be the D: drive, and the DVD Drive D: used to be E:.

^ Lol, I kinda figured that, but I wasn't sure.
Anyways, I just re-installed Windows last week, but I don't see why that would change them. :\
did this happen upon reinstalling or did it happen, say, a few days after the installation?Quote:

the only time I can remember Windows messing with my drive letters,
other than a total reinstallation of the OS,
was after removing/reinstalling drives and there was a preceeding letter open
example:
I have a C:, D:, and for whatever reason, a G: drive
uninstall the G:, reinstall and it would default to E:

If that's windows vista then you should not be surprised when beta microsoft software behaves in unexpected and undesirable ways.
In XP you can adjust the letters assigned to drives in control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management.
Since his ? mark is under Drives with Removable Storage we can assume it's a cd drive...
Skizo, have you check to see if the drive shows in disk management or device manager?
Nope, it's XP Media Center. Also, are there any risks to changing the drive letter? I don't wanna have to reformat again.Quote:

Sorry for not responding to replies earlier, I've been out of town.Quote:

Does it show up in the Device Manager?
Does it show up in the BIOS?

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
Try right click->uninstall.
Also see if it shows up in your BIOS.
Can you elaborate on why I would want to uninstall it? So I could try reinstalling it maybe? I don't have any driver discs or anything.Quote:

EDIT: Yes, it appears in BIOS under IDE: SECONDARY MASTER
you know, this problem seems to be well documented
google is a bitch for some poeple though :P
Uninstall it and reboot.
Windows will detect it when it restarts and it will reinstall it.
Uninstalled.Quote:

EDIT: This sounds similar - http://www.computing.net/windows2000...rum/63399.html Any opinions?
