what is the best ff? i don't want to play the early ones for snes. just the ps and ps2 games.
i can get ff 7,8 x and x-2. i have 8 on pc right now.
what is ff IX? how come it's not as popular as the others?

Ff7 is argued to be the best ff ever, and id have to agree:)

i'm playing a bit of ff8 on pc. it looks really really shitty. all the backgrounds are like crappy static backgrounds. i guess it's pretty good for the ps, but it looks so bad
i played a little ffx @ my friends place. it's so weird. i'm more used to kotor and guild wars. real time rpg.
FF 7 and 8 as far as i know are the best..
I preffer 8.
Also in 9 you can disable the waitng thing so that the monster will attack you as soon as its ready no matter if you are trying to find an item in the middle of the fight or even if you hesitaded to attack..
The same think with you.. your characters will strike as soon as they are ready. if they are faster than the monster they might manage to strike twice!
I have enjoyed paying them all up to 9.
I want to borrow a ps2 just to play FFX and FFX-2 rom a friend of mine!:)
just played a bit of ff8. my god the game looks so bad. everything just looks so ugly. the game is almost 7 years old yes, but still. it looks just so ugly. ahhh

FF just sucks ass too me. I bought the FF for PS1 awhile back and I was hyped (like everyone else) but ended up bored to tears.
The FF games have great cinemas but I want to play a game for the gameplay, not watch a movie.
i'm currently playing guild wars. i'm still at the beginning at pre-searing doing all the quests be4 i move on to post-searing. not sure if i like it or not. i'm a lvl7 warrior/monk. me, i'm a traditionalist rpg player unlike urself. i enjoy the ff's. real-time rpg's are fun, but get boring kinda fast. there's no objective really. for me, ff is fun. i enjoy the countless leveling up then sit back and watch a 10 min cg movie after i beat a boss that took 30 mins.Quote:

I want adrenaline not a board game. When I play FF on PS1 it was board game. I move my character around the "board". Encounter an enemy? Roll the dice.
I like leveling up but give me a Diablo clone instead.
I guess the perfect game would be a 40 hour, hack n slash rpg, with in game cinemas.
I think games like FF entice players with the cinemas but fall flat on adrenaline and fun.
your not rolling a dice really rolling a dice is a 1 in 6 chance of a 6
if you use your brains and know a boss that breaths fire is resisted to Ice then you throw ice.. it can be strategic too
it was FF game that really got me into gaming before that I was on sports games only
Chrono Trigger is the best Final Fantasy type game, great combat system and decent story. Final Fantasy 7. 8 and 9 were all pretty good but I've been spoilt by the likes of Morrowind now.
busyman, wait for ff xII. it uses a pseudo real time combat system kinda like kotor. u can move around when u battle. also in x-2 the combat system is changed so that u don't really have to "take turns".
i'm playing ffx and ffx-2 for sure.
I might check that out. I could play KOTOR so those FF games shouldn't be a stretch.Quote:

Did you ever try the Shining Force games on the Megadrive? Those were great games, tactical turn-based combat at its best with an engaging storyline. Worth playing on an emulator if you get the chance, they are defiently a part of RPG history. I think some sequels came out for the later Sega consoles but I had grown out of consoles by then :(Quote:

On the subject of turn-based games Advance Wars also ranks right up there. Like the old war boardgames they used to have (think Games Workshop nowadays) only with the computer to keep track of all the rules. Good stuff, I think I played Advance Wars until the cartridge burned out...
Back to the turn-based combat RPG's other classics have to be Bard's Tale, Phantasy Star, Breath of Fire, and Wasteland (forerunner to the equally great Fallout).
bysman has a point about ff8 though 20 hrs of the 100 hrs gameplay is spent watching a guardian force Infrit throw a fucking fireball

leveling up is usess because the eniemes level weill also be the same as yours so you waste hrs leveling up with no reward
