Cooking with Gripper

Ingredients:

100g/4oz Plain Flour

A pinch Salt

1 Egg

270ml/9fl.oz. Milk

Vegetable Oil for frying

Sugar to serve

Lemon or Orange juice to serve

Wedges of Lemons or Oranges to garnish



Instructions



1. Place the flour, salt, milk and egg in a large bowl and whisk until smooth and lump free. Preheat the oven to very low to keep the first lot of pancakes warm whilst you're cooking the remainder.



2. Transfer the batter to a measuring jug.



3. Heat the oil in a frying pan until very hot, then pour most of it into a heatproof container, leaving just enough oil to coat the pan.



4. Pour in a little of the batter, tilting the pan to evenly cover the base with a thin layer. Fry over a moderate heat, shaking the pan gently so it doesn't stick, until the underside is golden. This will only take 1-2 minutes.



5. Using a palette knife, turn the pancakes over and cook the other side until golden.



6. Remove to a plate , cover with foil and place in the warmed oven whilst you cook the remaining pancakes in the same way.

From Grippers ingredients above, I only managed to get about 5 and a half pancakes, and they turned out a bit like yorkshire puddings. :(

What if I've finished and followed all the instructions but my pancakes look like... well... vomit? :dabs:

I followed this recepie last night and my pancakes turned out fine.

Altho' you forgot raisins and the correct amount of sugar to use is a twatload :smilie4:

My all time favourite filling is fresh strawberries and melted chocolate poured over the top

Opened the raisin tin and all the raisins had got fur on them :dabs:

Also, had to chuck out last years squeezy lemon as it smelt of piss. :unsure:

Luckily, a new squeezy lemon was available :01:

Better recipe:

Replace half of the milk with Kriek Belle Vue ( cherry beer)
Serve with cherries in syrup, vanilla ice cream and afore mentioned beer.

Yes, they are. I had this discussion on the weekend when I made pancakes for breakfast and was given curious looks when I served them. These are what we call pancakes here...

...and we serve them with butter and maple syrup, I personally like a bit of lemon juice on mine as well to cut the sweetness of the syrup.

BTW, for a treat, try putting fresh blueberries, raspberries or strawberries and/or ricotta cheese in the middle and rolling the crepes up, carefully tucking the ends over so the filling doesn't spill out. Then put the stuffed crepes back in the fry pan with a little bit of hot cooking oil on medium-high heat and brown each side lightly so that the fruit inside warms and carmelises. Top with confectioner's sugar or whipped cream. I think they're called blintzes, but I dunno. I just remember my grandmother teaching me to make them when I was a little kid. Ever so nice as a dessert.

I served up mine with blackcurrants and vanilla ice cream...

My favourite is with lots of Lyle's golden syrup (other manufacturers just don't taste right) and a squib of lemon juice (fresh of course, not that Jiz stuff)
