Oblivion on these specs
I know I should have asked this before I ordered it, but Oblivion is arriving today and I'd like to know if these specs will run it smoothly on high settings, at 1024X768.
AMD 3400+ 64 bit
1gb Kingmax DDR ram
Geforce 6800 GT at Ultra speeds
the last high spec game I played was FEAR, which was perfect except for some choppiness if I enabled Soft Shadows. How will Oblivion run?

Re: Oblivion on these specs
its pretty much same as my specs only i have PCI express radoen 800 and my runs smooth and very very nice here you will be fine
-
Re: Oblivion on these specs
I wish I had a PCI-E motherboard. My machine was such a beast when I got it in September 2004, now it's losing face.

Re: Oblivion on these specs
My old computer has similar specs, you should be able to run it at 'Medium' and 800 x 600 with no problems. Look on the official forums for ini tweaks to bum the fps up some more (stuff like making the grass shorter really makes a difference on a machine like yours).
Don't trust the auto-detect thing as that tends to be a tad optimistic. If you really want to play it at Ultra-High and a good res, buy a new machine. But even then it's not perfect, I average 30fps outdoors with my xt1800xt and 4200 X2...

Re: Oblivion on these specs
My machine does match and exceed the recommended specs, though...
-
Re: Oblivion on these specs
You will have no problems with oblivion! Especially with that 6800GT!
I have a 6600GT with the latest drivers at 800x600 resolution with HDR enabled and it runs really good! I can imagine with 6800GT!

So does my laptop but it doesn't mean I can play it at ultra-high. With those specs you'll be playing a good-looking smooth game at medium or possibly high settings. With patches, mods and ini tweaks thrown in you'll be laughing.

Re: Oblivion on these specs
Is it just a badly programed game, or do you think it's the death-knell for systems like mine?

A little bit of both. I think Bethesda really struggled to optimize the game for all possible configs out there and it is only through modders that people have been able to get significant fps boosts. But also, I had a system similar to yours which I upgraded wholesale to be able to play this game at max specs.

Re: Oblivion on these specs
I technically don't have time for games now, and I'm trying to save up $3000 for a new camera, hopefully that camera will lead to my business getting off the ground and some considerable income which will let me get a new system :P
Or maybe I'll just win big at the casino.

Re: Oblivion on these specs
i dont know why but it runs great on my radeon9600 lol
-
Re: Oblivion on these specs
a friend of mine has a similar computer, the proccessor is a dualcore, but of similar speed, and he has exactly the same graphics card, and he has no problems with oblivion on high settings. I don't imagion that you should.

Re: Oblivion on these specs
Well, the copy I got was suffering from a CRC error. So now I have to wait for a replacement. ARGH

Download a copy whilst you wait.

Re: Oblivion on these specs
I'm on 512 ADSL, it will take too long. I can get a new copy in the next two days.
By the way, I forgot to mention I'm planning on running the game without AA/AF...Will that make a big performance difference?

You can't use AA anyhow if you plan to have HDR lighting on.

I heard the 1900xt cards use AA with HDR... unless thats the 7900 GTX. I know it's one of them.

Not on Oblivion, no graphics card can because of the way Bethesda have implemented the graphics. No mods or patches have come out that fix this issue either.

But it's not unique in that respect.

Re: Oblivion on these specs
Well, PC Pitstop just declared my system in excellent condition and in the best performing range compared to systems with similar specs.
-

I'm running it on a similar system, with a Radeon 9550 and can get it to play, without all the bells and whistles.
I suspect i'm missing out a lot but it is just such a good game the eye candy is just the frosting on the cake.

It was only a matter of time, I'm just about to try it out.
