Re: GPS tracker for my car
Long time in the business: http://www.lojack.com/
But I think that some cell phone companies could provide a similar service with an inexpensive phone hidden in the vehicle. Many offer GPS tracking and some are even designed to have young children carry them so that parents can "track" their kids.
Re: GPS tracker for my car
how much would lojack cost? i'm getting a brand new 2006 suzuki grand vitara
and is lojack one of those things where u have to pay them monthly? cuz that's stupid. and lojack only works with the police apparently. i want to see where it is too
maybe i need something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/GPS-Active-Track...QQcmdZViewItem
or this:
http://www.vehicle-tracking.com
yea....
and i can do the cellphone method. i have a bunch of old cellphones that i don't use, most if not all of them have the tracking ability. if i do that, will i be able to see where the cellphone is? or can only the phone company see it?
Re: GPS tracker for my car
Re: GPS tracker for my car
No matter how you do it, utilizing GPS for tracking will cost you some sort of monthly fee.
(btw, it's not like this sort of service runs by itself)
Re: GPS tracker for my car
Where do you live?
'cause you don't need one here in Burlington.
Here local dance competitions make the Burlington Post front page, so our vehicles are quite secure.
Re: GPS tracker for my car
i called sprint and tmobile. apparently they don't have any kind of "per-minute" service so i can use a phone as a gps. wtf! sprint u lying turd. retarded customer service bitches. they told me last year they have a $0.40/minute service. wtf
the only thing t-mobile has are their prepaid card shit. but they expire in 2 months.
ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wat can i do?
Re: GPS tracker for my car
put maps of where ever you're going in your glove compartment.
Re: GPS tracker for my car
well, yea. but i'm not talking about gps maps. i'm talking about anti-theft. like what VB said up there
Re: GPS tracker for my car
I like anti-theft systems that beep, man do they work
Re: GPS tracker for my car
I think you are looking for something like the ebay item you mentioned in post 3. It seems to work in any area with good cellphone coverage. I assume it has some sort of inbuilt cellphone and gps device, so you don't need to use one of your spare phones. Since you will know where YOU are, you only need the minimum monthly subscription. Check with the supplier before you buy from a third party though.
The other item (from vehicle-tracking.com) is definitely NOT what you want, it simply records where the vehicle has been which is not much use if you can't get the vehicle back.
However, the police may not respond to your information about the location of the vehicle in the same way as they would to systems such as lojack simply because with lojack type systems they can actively track the vehicle when it is on the move.
Re: GPS tracker for my car
lojack isn't really based off satellite. so if the cars outside the usa, lojack doesn't do jack
the cellphone thing would work
Re: GPS tracker for my car
hows the car gonna leave the country so quick, you a little paranoid?
Re: GPS tracker for my car
i'll be driving to and from canada for business. if i get it stolen while i'm in canada, lojack is useless

What about OnStar? Ya ok that's monthly fee too but you have limited options really.
Re: GPS tracker for my car
onstar's only for american cars cuz they know it's going to break down in a few years.
it'd be nice if i could use the cellphone to track the car. hmmmmmmmm

my other option would be to add 1 more line to the tmobile family plan i'm starting up soon, and just leave that in the car. but that's $10 extra per month. :( hmmmmmm
actual gps trackers cost a few hundred at least.  :pinch:
