I used to have a High Fidelity inspired "Top 5 songs to be played at your funeral" list laying around somewhere, but I think I ended up trashing it.
To be more current with it (and shave off four songs in the process), the one song that I'd want to be performed at my funeral would be "Corpus Christi Carol", preferably by an all female choir.
I don't think its morbid its something we all thought about ,more so as one gets older . I'm Scottish so would like the bag pipes or something sad by Rod Stewart like Gasoline Alley to drown out all the fat broards crying in the front row .
Peter Cooke & Dudley Moore - Goodbye-ee
My old girl has told me she wants Bruce Springsteen's I'm On Fire for her cremation :lol:s
At my funeral I want the song "Når Sjelen Hentes Til Helvete" from Dimmu Borgir or "Det Som En Gang var" from Burzum. \m/
That's just stupid lolQuote:

I'll Be Missing You - Puff Daddy...?
Stay Wild - Wizo.
Fortanately for both of us, I've heard both the songs you listed (lee551 hooked me on to Dimmu Borgir and then it kinda went from there). But whether or not its beautfiul+epic, it's still not something that is "proper" to be played at a funeral, but to each his own :)Quote:

Because melodic death metal, by definition (of culture), is something not to be meddled with during funerals....hence the word death metal.Quote:

I chose last post due to military significance.
Lynyrd Slynyrd~Free Bird
Of course there is the classic "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zep.
And our favoruite "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" by Travis. This was used on a TV Show funeral scene in "William And Mary" it was a very moving scene.

I think that Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust would be mine :D
In all seriousness though I think that I’d like the third movement in Beethoven’s 9th symphony.
'Memory of a Good Friend' by Chris Rea
Any good haunting song with lots of pan flute. ;-)
"Chop Suey" (System of a down)
I really like this song and although I didn't exactly understand the meaning of the lyrics, it's talking about suicide and death.
Fraggle rock theme tune.
And everyone must join in and clap along.
...erm... I will always love you - Kenny Rogers/Dolly parton..
or, I did it my way - Sid Vicious...
edit: and definitely, No need to argue - the cranberries :)
i dont want any kindof songs playin at my Funeral :(
There's only one music that should ever be played in funerals, and obviously is one that for you guys to guess should be heard, and understood the history behind it...
The music is....
-------

-------
-------
-------

A little suspense... :p

Mozart's Lacrimosa is the only true music made for funerals, the one wich is said to set Mozart working till death, now those of you who knew about it can stop pretending to be surprised, the other ones should *buy* the album right away and hear it remembering the funeral of someone they really miss..
Edit: oh and by the way, the music is one of the most beautifull ever composed, not some kind of "feelings breeder" or "feeling-alive-maker" as the ones we hear today, it is just beautifull and this is just my opinion
No offence, but have you even heard the song? Sigur Ros is in noway, and never has been, Death Metal. I think I might just have to upload it, because I'm very certain you might have it confused for something else.Quote:

ok... downloding it at 100kBs+ when it's ready I will play it over Mensa radio..thanks :)
..playing now..and is indeed special.
but it's not Death Metal? Right?
:) hehe I wouldn't call it that...but it would be OK for funerals :) does go on a bit...
the title song from Titanic was a very popular song at funerals, about 5 years ago.. " my heart will go on.."
Big Pimpin
I liked Halleluja by Jeff Buckley, until they used in on the OC for a funeral..now i have to find a new one
It's very cliche, but "Dust in the Wind" has always been one of my favorite songs to play on accoustic. So I think I would go with that one.
Such Great Heights...the Iron & Wine version of it
Peter Cooke
He won't come 'cos he's already dead, silly.Quote:
