You Might Be Interested!

I was listening to Radio 1 with Jo Whiley last week (UK) and she had Blur on who was playing live. She did an interview with them, and asked them what they thought of file-sharing on the internet and pirated music, and the answer, i thought, was amazing! And as a music producer/writer myself, I completely 100% agree with them.

This is roughly how it went:

Jo: "So what do you think of File Sharing on the net and pirating music?"

Blur: "We make music for people to listen to. Our main goal is to make the world hear our music, not to make 10 million pounds! People who are against file sharing are just greedy, selfish people who do not care at all about music, just money - the reason there's so much rubbish around today. We want the world to hear our music, whether they've had to pay for the marketing, advertising, cd case, cd sleeve and the bus to the shop to get the cd, or whether they've effortlessly sat at home and downloaded it for free, either way is a step closer to ANY REAL musician's goal!"

yea metallica doesnt feel they make/made enough money off of their years in the biz.

Well, I don't like that kind of music anyway, but it don't matter what kind of music it is, they were obviously making music for money, which says to me that their heart wasn't in it, and if their heart wasn't in it, do they really deserve the millions of fans they have? NO THEY FUCKING DONT!

Well maybe they wasn't. But if they wasn't they seem to be now! Because they've (commercially) faded out, they blame piracy?! Maybe their new stuff just wasn't good enough?

Don't wanna start a row though, lol, cuz I know nothing about them or their style or genre of music.

that's too true. they used to be die hard rockers and all their older stuff is the best with a few of the new tracks, but i think after LOAD came out they totally changed theirimage for the worst.

with the price of a cd. (&#036;12.00-16.00-21.00<==if if double) :( is not a surprise that the "sharing" comunnity have grown so fast.

i rather pay &#036;30.00 to 50.00 for a good concert (is like a vacation, a experience that you&#39;ll never foget) than &#036;16.00 for a crappy cd with maybe 2 good songs.

that&#39;s my theory also. i will pay to see a band or music act live in concert to support them. i also like to go to theatres and watch new releases if they interest me enough. i also but a lot of DVD&#39;s too but for music and progs and games i&#39;ll download that shit in a heartbeat.

or at least as fast as my 56k will let me&#33; :D

I would even pay over the odds for certain acts&#33; But as for CD albums, rarely&#33; VERY rarely is a album 100% mint&#33; Plus the fact of the actual Artist hardly gets fuck all from the revenue&#33;&#33;&#33;

The music industry blames mostly piracy for the permanently increasing prices, when actually, I think it&#39;s the other way round, Piracy is increasing because the cost of living is permanently going up, including the price of music&#33; If singles were still £1.99, Id still fork out for the remixes and maybe the enhanced CD video, but £4&#33;&#33;&#33;&#33;? I don&#39;t fucking think so&#33; If singles are really worth £4 each, then an albums worth for £15 is actually a bargain&#33; (I don&#39;t think) - then bare in mind that albums seem to be containing less and less tracks nowadays (Roger Sanchez&#39;s last album had 10 tracks&#33;)

There are still music producers out there that give you quality for your money (such as Dr. Dre, 2001 was pukka - every track&#33; over 20&#33;) but 99.9% of them are in it for the money, not the music, so fuck them - let&#39;s be honest, how many people would REALLY be that bothered if every single boy and girl band&#39;s record labels went bust anyway?&#33; lol

Well what about porn?? do u know that the girls that apear on so many filmes only get pay like&#036;500.00 a movie?. Now the price of the average dvd is &#036;15.00/&#036;20.00
So the money isn&#39;t relly going to the star or artist, They only get paid once, But the company keep making money out of their asses. :(

its true what blur says. also its the label who makes all the money from selling cd&#39;s. The musicians make their bucks from koncerts touring and all that crap &#33;

Before Music and Filmmaking became an Industrie
artists had a real say about the artistic content.

Now marketexperts are dictating issues like Image ,content and timing of &#39;new&#39;
material <_< .
For all I care the industry had this bashing coming and there is more on their way. ;)

Excellent comparison with the porn industry. All entertainers are only selling thereselves right?

Besides Bands do not make that much off of record sales all "their" money comes from tours.
