i've been using protowall for a long time now. i remember i first started with peerguardian, then found protowall to block @ driver level, and switched, and stayed with it. which is better? peerguardian has a new version now that i hear is pretty good...
Yes, get PG. It is much faster and easier to use. You can also disable HTTP Filtering in case you want to surf worry free while in Protowall, you would have to stop filtering completely
does pg block @ a driver level?
if you go to www.bluetack.co.uk . I think thats the site you will see protowall or blocklist manager and they have a larger group of blocked ip's is that better? I don't know but I use them both. better safe than sorry!

however, if a "bad guy" wanted to connect to you on port 80 or 443 at that time, they could. however, if you're using bittorrent and azureus as your client, you can configure it to block connections from those ports.Quote:

Just go with whatever you trust.
it's all up to you. if you're happy using protowall and it works fine, I wouldn't switch it up. I used it for a couple of years, until I built a new pc, and it just wouldn't work right with this machine. I'm using pg2 now and haven't had any problems. they both do the same job, just different way of going about it.Quote:

I used peerguardian2, but i found it was slowing down my system. I like Protowall better, and it sounds like blocking at the driver level probably works better.
PeerGuardian2 is faster and easier. Still it sometimes blocks and slowdown the computer shutdown.
I would say not much in it . This finishes a draw !
I'm using pg2 it does slow down your pc a bit never used protowall so cant comment on it

I use PeerGuardian2 becuase it uses less cpu. Supposedly they help protect you from RIAA attacks although the software has other funtions like spyware protection. Don't run both at the sametime. Both of these apps provide more peace of mind than actual protection imo.

basically, my dell is being stupid and won't make a bluetooth driver for my laptop (xps m1330) for 32bit xp. so i have to go back to vista
currently, PG2 supports vista, kinda. there's a alpha build that seems to work.
Protowall barely has enough $ to pay for hosting, let alone the manpower to support vista.
which is better now? PG2 has come a long way, and it's supposed to be really good now
i used to use protowall with blocklist manager then tried pg2. both worked fine for me but i use pg2 now as disabling http is easy whenever i want. i use it with blocklist manager.
