Fallout and Fallout 2 for RPGs.
FPS, I thought the original killzone was alright. Timesplitters is made by the people who did goldeneye, and it's also kind of comical
RPG, I love Final Fantasy but that doesn't hold true for everyone. The Suikoden series is really good too
Stalker is a RPG/FPS so you should check it out you'd probably like it, I do I just wish HDR wasnt such a resource hog.

By the way Gears of War is a Third Person Shooter. My pick for first person shooters is War Rock. Best of all it's free.

I'll take any FPS were I can bring up god mode and just go around killing everything in site, good guys, bad guys, and team mates alike, there all going to die.
What no Half-Life? It was the first real first person shooter I could actually play with out cursing and breaking my disks to pieces.
