What is "scene"

What do people mean when they talk about scene releases? what exacty is scene?

maybe you have download a new program that some group just cracked..
maybe a new music CD ?

all this is "scene"

Some info on this site is bit outdated, for example the fact stuff get released days after scene pre on torrent trackers

There are even a few sections I remember having read in a txt file dating back from 1999 or 2000 :rolleyes:

But besides it gives a good idea of how the whole thing works
