FAQ
What is a Dedicated Server? A dedicated hosting service, dedicated server, or managed hosting service is a type of Internet hosting where the client leases an entire server not shared with anyone.
What is a Seedbox? Is bittorrent terminology for a dedicated server that is used to upload and download torrents. Seedboxes are usually purchased by uploaders and torrent communities to get the latest content at high speeds.
How do I use the dedicated server/seedbox? A Dedicated Server/Seedbox is very simple to use, once you have purchased and fully paid for the dedicated server/seedbox, the service provider will send you the following:
- The Server IP Address
- The Server Username
- The Server Password
Using these things you can log on to your server using remote desktop.
You can download RDP at: Download Here
(Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a multi-channel protocol that allows a user to connect to a computer running Microsoft Terminal Services.) You can access remote desktop on your Windows PC by going to:
- On your home computer, click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Accessories.
- In the Accessories menu, point to Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.
Then type the IP Address for the Server provided by the Hosting company, click connect and you will be taken to a log in screen, similar to the OS the server is running. Log in and that is it, you now have access to your server.

Dediboxes
What is a dedibox? A dedibox(s) are dedicated server that are hosted by Dedibox.fr. Dediboxes are dedicated servers that you have root access to but the network on which it is connected is shared. Dediboxes are connected to a supposed 300Gbit network, but due to the many subscribers, dediboxes which are advertised as 100Mbit Unmetered will only guarantee you 30Mbit Unmetered. The only time users report reaching 100Mbit Speeds is while connection to another user on the dedibox network.

Also note that these Dediboxes are not that strict about running torrents, but if they catch you due to excessive use or abuse of bandwidth they will close your dedibox without refund.
Dediboxes also have random checks and police raids.

DEDICATED SERVERS/SEEDBOXES
The Following are my Top 5 Choices for Best Dedicated Servers.
Number 5: V E C T O R A L
I personally havent used this company, but i have heard nothing but great things from them. They too offer cheap, reliable servers at competitive prices.
Dedicated Servers
Server: 4.5/5
Network: 3.5/5
NUMBER 4:M O X I E H O S T I N G
Moxiehosting understands that customers are unique and therefore they provide true flexibility in a wide range of server options and upgrades with realistic pricing. The Network is never oversold ensuring everyone has the bandwidth when they need it. They offer unmetered bandwidth as well.
Dedicated Servers
Server: 4.5/5
Network: 4.5/5
Number 3: L A Y E R E D T E C H
Hmm, layered tech one of the best server that i have ever used, i dont think there was a time i didnt max out my speed, with their 100Mbit i could easily reach 11-12 mb/s. They have a great turn around time, i got my server in less than 5, 6 hours.
Dedicated Servers
Server: 4.5/5
Network: 5/5
Number 2: S O F T L A Y E R
This is probably one of the best server that i have ever used, Softlayer is the best of the best, nothing more to say, maxed out connections 24/7. Note Softlayer is the most expensive server ive purchased only because i upgraded to a higher bandwidth and network speed. You have got to purchase one to know how amazing their server and network is, the speeds are phenomenal and the service is phenomenal. This is why ScT, FTN, FSC, all Top site uploaders and torrent sites purchase SoftLayer, because your getting what you paid for.
Server: 5/5
Network: 5/5
Number 1: L E A S E W E B
This is the best hosting company, why else would torrent sites such as TL and SCC host there. They provide excellent support and excellent dedicated Server service. They have top-notch servers with one of the best network, you will get great speeds no matter what.
Dedicated Servers

Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
wow, excellent post man, I have been thinking about getting one, so this is some usefull stuff indeed.
One question, it seemed that all of them (atleast the cheaper ones) has metered bandwith.
http://english.keyweb.de/dedicated/index.shtml this one have unmetered and is cheaper than most of those, but I guess there is a reason for that. I would like unmetered, you think that one is ok? why/why not. maby other places offer unmetered?
anyways, two thumps up for this post :)
-
Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
yeah keyweb.de is raided ALOT by german police :)
hope that helps :P
-
Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
hmmm, dont like that... do you know of any other services with unmetered bandwith?
-
Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
alot of them dedibox and resellers are the cheapest unmetered.
and it also depends on what you want, alot of hosts provide 10Mbit Unmetered for around $150USD/month, 100Mbit Unmetered costs upwards of $1000/month for a truly unmetered.

Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
i hv a query......i intend on seeding a lot of torrents at the same time ......should i go for a celeron 2.0GHz or P4 2.8GHz as there is a price difference between them..... would i hv any probs with the celeron??
-
Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
I want as much data uploaded as possible over the peroid of 1, maby 2 months and pay not more that I have too... and one thing, what specs does the server itself have to have to handle hardcore seeding, wouldnt the cheapest one normally be enough?
edit: well blacklisted asked a similar question aboput how good it has too be... oh well, always a little late... :)

when on a dedibox which is celeron and im seeding like 5+ torrent at maybe 3 mb/s + it really slows down, and i hope you dont plan to rar and upload :P , id say go with the P4 if you plan on doing 5+ torrents at a time or rarring.

hmm if you want to do ask much as you can obviously dedibox, but if they catch you with torrents they wont do refunds if you do upload/download combined 500-700GB a week they might not catch you. But if you wanna do like 1Tb + a week, they would have disabled you in the first week.

Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
I don't have much experience in the seedbox area, but my friend found this site:
http://www.leeware.com/product.html
AMD 64 Athlon 3400+ Equal Share, RAM 384MB, HDD 20GB, 100Mbps Unmetered
Only $15.00 / month.
Too good to be true? Or am I missing something?
-
Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
Going with the above two questions - how many people could reasonably share a box to get good seeding ? Trying to work out a min. cost to get good ratios ...

I suggest 2GB Ram , try to keep to 2 ppl, after that it gets very slow, depending on which server you choose.

Yes go with something other than Dediboxes, i suggest Leaseweb, Vector.info or Shinjiru if you dont want to spend too much.

Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
Ive changed LeaseWeb from 3rd Place to 1st Place, i tried out their 1Gbit Server and i am completely blown away, for the first time ever i reached my top upload speed of 46.9 MB/s , that means i was uploading a DVD5 every 90 seconds i have never reached this speed, and what was amazing is that i maintained the speed till the leecher list dropped to 100 and the seeder list went up to 100. I will be signing up with LeaseWeb, amazing host, backed up with their 77Gbit Network, they are the new Number 1 Seedbox Company.

Re: BT Dedicated Server/Seedbox
I have two server now . A ubuntu-Based server which I rent from DediBox-International and Windows 2003 STD-Based server which I rent from Vectoral.info
You can see many users in SCT have Vectoral . They are GREAT !
I dn't have any Problem with them .
But unfortunately I have many problem with DediBox-International . my server was turned-Off many times in a day and they don't answer questions correctly . The main problem is "Bad Support" even in Live Chatroom otherwise they never told me about Torrenting .
