Burning DVD's question...converters?
Hey,
I recently bought a new lap top and can finally burn off some of my movies, etc to free up some space. The only problem is that the first movie I burnt didn't work as a DVD. I burnt it as a .avi file. How can I fix this? I've read about .avi to dvd converters. I guess I need to convert the file? If so, is there any decent free converter out there? Any response would be a huge help!
Thanks!
Re: Burning DVD's question...converters?
well, if you downloaded a movie, then you are not unfamiliar with pirating things, so go get winAVI 7. Dont use 7.1, it sucks. If there is a newer version, then test it for yourself. Or alternatively you could buy a standalone dvd player that plays xvid, then you can watch your movies burned as avi :)
I will recommend the philips dvp-642 :)
Re: Burning DVD's question...converters?
By the way, I have a DVD burner. So, I don't need to burn a VCD.
And thanks for the quick reply, I'll see if I can find winAVI 7 now...
Re: Burning DVD's question...converters?
Also check out: VSO ConvertXtoDVD.

Re: Burning DVD's question...converters?
I liked DvdSanta but had a problem so switched to Xso convertxodvd nice program . Not as easy but I'm getting the hang of it and won't switch back . My new install disk Indego had a few to choose from but with Xso it was easy to find a working version .
Tried WinAvi and Windvr Pro but like Xso better .

I have always used VSO ConvertXtoDVD with no problems. You can even put in subtitles and menus.
Re: Burning DVD's question...converters?

Hmm not if you convert them tho , my old dog Dvd player and Playstation 2 plays them fine . :)
Re: Burning DVD's question...converters?
There are a few dvd players that have the ability to play divx/xvid. And they're getting quite cheaper now. I wonder when they'll make dvd players that can play .mkv, with all the x264 flying around.
Anyway, to convert to dvd, VSO ConvertXtoDVD like said before is one the better tools for that purpose. But there's also The FilmMachine. It's a program that automates the use of a variety of tools. In my opinion it might be even better than XtoDVD. It takes longer to convert but produces better quality.
Re: Burning DVD's question...converters?
The Filmmachine workes pretty good... it use to be much harder to reencode stuff... the old ways still make better conversions but require a lot of resources + expertise...
