What's the stop code?
there is no code, just a blue screen and i have to hold the power button to switch it off.

What OS?
Is this new behavior of has that computer always done that?
Is it the blue screen of death Blue or simply windows shutdown blue?

it's most likely a program stalling ur pc shutting down. which? well, from the last time ur pc shut down properly 'til now. maybe firewall also?

I had a problem like that when one of me ram chips was going doolally.
yeh guys sorry about that, yeh its new behaviour but i have had it for a long time if tht makes sense, in that it never used to happen. Yeh and its the windows shutdown blue if tht helps.

What did you install just before that?
cant remember exactly its been happening for a long time, all i know is it only happens when i leave my PC on for a long period of time. Sorry for the lack of information.
Is there a program that you run when you "leave my PC on for a long period of time"?
Something that you don't normally start when using it for a short time.
erm all i can think of is utorrent when im dloadin big files, thats the only reason why i leave my PC on for a long time.
Try rebooting.
Don't run that program and reboot again.
Does the problem happen?
Now run that program for 5 to 10 minutes and then reboot again.
Does the problem happen?
Keep doing this with whatever you think could be the problem program until you find which one causes the problem.
Once you do then uninstall that program and look for a newer version or something else that serves the same purpose.
