Should I keep It Online?
http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/every...-server-163745
The server FileSharingTalk.mensap2p.com has been running now for 23 hours, 24 min. It was a spontaneous idea/intention of mine to keep it up for only 24 hours..unless :) you would like me to keep it online.. If you look at the server statistics below, you will see it's been quite busy for a brand new file-sharing server, considering it is it's first day online...
If you like this idea, then I could make a simple guide with some screen shots to help you connect rapidly to the server..
It would be for simplicities sake, the Sunshine client, you see in the thread mentioned above. There is a download link to it.
[09:32:00]:<Server> Network: 337/1000 users, 497.889 files, 31.025 GB.
[09:32:00]: <Server> Network averages: 1477 files/user, 92 GB/user.
[09:32:00]: <Server> Maximum users: 512
[09:32:00]: <Server> Maximum files: 686.488
[09:32:00]: <Server> Maximum GB: 36.364 ,
[09:32:00]: <Server> 3.907 connections,
[09:32:00]: <Server> 0 direct browse attempts, 40 server browses, 46.841 files browsed through server.
[09:32:00]: <Server> 339 sockets used.
[09:32:00]: <Server> Last minute: 3.3 K/s in, 0.4 K/s out
[09:32:00]: <Server> Last minute: 1 connections, 76 searches, 1 transfers
34 minutes to go... and the server is filling up again :)
We could try and make it to the top of the league..
check the list here http://www.gotnap.com/index.php?loc=list
(you will need to scroll down to find server, FileSharingTalk.mensap2p.com ...but with a little bit of help... ...we could reach number one, let me say, within a month or two.... ( minimum share on the server, by the way is, 3 files and 12 mbs, no porn, but I know you wouldn't have any of that now, would you :noes: ) :yup:
What's your advice? Carry on ..or take it offline in 30 minutes...
:pizza:

Re: Should I keep It Online?
I have added a guide if you want to join those who went before you...
http://z15.invisionfree.com/Imagine_...topic=204&st=0
That should help get you in, there might be a few typos etc ....I could copy and paste the whole thread here... now..I wonder how long it takes to reach 1000 users .. at the moment, 462

Re: Should I keep It Online?
To be honest, i get everything i need off of bittorrent and i seriously don't need more.
It is a great gesture, of course i would prefer to share to fst users as a priority instead of the masses, but that is not the way torrents work.

Re: Should I keep It Online?
OK well after a successful 30 hour experiment with users rising to just over 700 and sharing 40,000 gigs data, I have shut the server down. :)

Thanks, you were welcome, and the only reason I shut it down was because I was using FileSharingTalks's name and the Admin had neither said, "go ahead" nor "stop" and... it was just for a bit of fun... :D

Re: Should I keep It Online?
So you thought you had got rid of me.. hehe :) Well due to popular demand.. like loads of emails and a few pm's.. I have restarted FileSharingTalk.mensap2p.com server ..and will leave it running for at least a week unless FST administration request me to shut it down..
If there are any WinMx users trying to connect, please contact Vargas..Mensap2p's WinMx specialist and moderator...

Re: Should I keep It Online?
I think j2k4 should move this topic to the filesharing part of the bored.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
Do you really, erm.I was thinking more in terms on the Movies, section part of the bored .. :)
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
Nah, not really - he should leave it here as that's where you intended it to be read.
See, I have a feeling that j2 didn't attend the 'Seen but not Heard' faculty of moderatorship, but was rather schooled at the 'Look at me, you cunts, I've got a fucking BADGE now' center of middle-management preparation.

Re: Should I keep It Online?
WTF..on the second page..it's still online by the way yesterday we reached over 1000 users 1147, to be exact.. I noticed jetje found his way to it..so I made him mod on the server..hehe so if you need help ;; you can always message him ( Don't dont use the FST pm service for your messages, the FileSharingTalk filesharing server has all that)
These are the last stats of the new FST servers I will showthem here for the last time , as otherwise I might run into trouble with cheese or manker..when I visit Plymouth later this year...

Re: Should I keep It Online?
*bump Should I continue to bump this thread, or have it moved to, "Funny Stuff" ( Drawing Room ) forum ;)
It's growing astronomically,
[21:45:02]: <Filesharingtalk.mensap2p.com> Maximum users: 1289 local, 1888 network.
The new network will be needing a couple of modulators soon; with far reaching powers, if it carries on like this.
Now once Paul has fixed Klite :w00t: so it connects to the the FST network too, there is a potential for up to 23 million connections ......

Re: Should I keep It Online?
Yeah but how do you use it.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
That's simple. First though, one needs to download a client. One very similar to the SoulSeek client, is Lopster. It has similar complete folder downloading capabilities and can be extremely fast, if one allows it's to multi-source. The interface is fairly user friendly and if you are used to SoulSeek, it's a walk over. It has also IRC functionality and is basically rooted in Linux..
I have created a visual guide for it. Here...
http://z15.invisionfree.com/Imagine_...p?showtopic=21
It's all free. What is on offer ? A modest number of privately run networks of file-sharing servers. where you can download, films, mp3, E-Books, CD images applications and more. One may also create private custom chat channels (on FST network) or just join the main chat or not...
The Lopster client has also it's own help and development forum here http://lopster.sourceforge.net/ and is open-sourced
The only downside I can think of is... you might meet me :)

Re: Should I keep It Online?
Meeting you would be a bonus mate.

Re: Should I keep It Online?
I've downloaded the program and installed it. Tried to use your guide, but the phoaties aren't there so I'm struggling to get it set up properly.
I'm probably missing something really obvious, as you know I'm shite at setting things up if they involve any actual thinking.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
If you let me know exactly where you are "stalled" I will probably be able to help
:smartass: <--- not really, but if you have stalled around the area of finding a server(mine :) ) to connect to...then I can help. Sharing files is not the problem as you and more here from the lounge are already on the server's "friends list" this means you are exempt from sharing files... and can always log on, even when the server had reached it's max_users... which is at the moment is set to 1000
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
When I log on at first i get the message, "Could not open library".
When I close that it tells me I am not connected.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
Ok , so you managed to configure your library, and when you click on that tab you see all your files.
Now also it would appear, you have found the server address to connect to( first tab), there are 6 possible servers you may choose from. Also the "Mensa" servers... If you agree thats where you are.. then try now to connect, I will watch the console and see if I can see this nick JPaul(?) attemting to log in. :) Coffee or whiskey is available in the main chat the Round_Table :)
This is the nick as listed in our friends list jpaul , capitals (JPaul) can be used to
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
No, when I click on the Library tab it shows as empty. Also I can't see any servers and I can't add any.
Do I need to forward any ports, is that maybe the problem.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
Right I've worked out the library thing. It's how to get connected I need to know.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
The ports you don't need to adjust just yet. Unshare any files you may have attempted to share, or don't share any yet.. Like SoulSeek, Lopster uses the right click option. Click on the Server tab, top left, a window will/should open, you may or may not see a list of servers. If we begin with the null option, then right click on that page, and you should see a menu open ... On top of the options, you should see "refresh"try that first..it should then try to connect to Gotnap to retrieve a list of servers, automatically. The window should fill up now with a list of networks and individual servers, that form the networks. It's once more a right click job on any server but try FileSharingTalk.mensap2p.com as that's the Flagship :) I can see in the console right now every connection attempt, succesfull or failed ..and yes, rossco and SnnY are also in the "list" :)
You can also manually add the name of the server I showed you just now...
Top Left..in Lopster on the SERVER page, type FileSharinTalk , then go to the left and fill in the server address I gave you above, just change the port in the default view, from 8888 to say 2007 or ..3456 . Right click on the server of your choice and choose connect :)
I will keep an eye open ..
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
Connected.
Will have to have a play now, then come back to you when I can't work stuff out.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
nice..then I will hide the whiskey and hagis... :)
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
I've made the music directory available just now. However that will take a wee while to index. It used to take ages when one did it as first with soulseek.
Is there a way to browse other people's files or is it simply the search function.
-
Re: Should I keep It Online?
So you can see what I'm searching for, downloading etc.
