hi
how much time do u think the torrent trackers and the p2p protocols will last?
less than 5 years
Tell us why you think that.
10-20 years because the world of internet one day has to change.
New inventions are not publicly represented, like BT wans't, just suddenly someone introduces something new, that gets better and better and boom.
Maybe next thing will be Bt2 ?
the idea behind file sharing will last forever for sure BUT the technique may vary .
i think forever & sure beside all new ways in sharing :)
Yeh I Think less than 5 years
Probably in 5-10 years there will be some new better way of sharing. I can't imagine what it will be, but something is bound to come along.
new sharing systems are developed almost every other year... its just that they aren't free so not everyone appreciates them... A good NEW free system will take at least 5 years topple bittorrent... it might not even topple maybe just modify
As long as Filesharing techniques may change by time you should also consider that RIAA & MPAA are evolving new ways to bring the whole idea of sharing down to it's knees, so i say that it's only a matter of time before RIAA & MPAA finds a way to kill BT and all other kinds of filesharing and by then we will be using the new hellish way of filesharing
i wish it could last forever
but my mind says : less then 5yrs
Just like Napster, BT will to come to an end. It had a good run, but ultimately, it is not perfect. While I will be sad to see it go in the near future (less than 5 years), I excitedly await the new ways to share files that are just around the corner. :)
Less than 5 years cause new ways of file sharing will come up as the technology marches...
I think bittorrent will be around for a long time just like usenet
I give it a little less than 5 yrs with the public trackers the first one to go. Its a cat and mouse game between piracy and mpaa, riaa, etc. BT will sink sooner or later though i wish it werent so but we have to face reality. Fortunately, there's much more people working against the mpaa, riaa, etc than for them so we have a large of pool of talent that can take P2P to the next level.
I think bittorrent in it's present form will die, but I see evolution in the protocol.
If you think about it, the bittorrent protocol has already evolved somewhat with the introduction of DHT and the trackerless torrent.
The base protocol is sound, in that you share as much as possible amongst as many peers as possible, spreading the burden of the upload.
Building on the base protocol is what will take this clever system into the next decade. DHT is one thing, but imagine the power of searching, or being able to locate a specific hash, and allowing your client to do the rest.
One thing that will change, though, is the future of small trackers. As bittorrent evolves, so will trackers need to. If they don't, they will disappear.
As for something better coming along, an improvement maybe, but a replacement no way. Bittorrent is already an optimum sharing system, which cannot be easily improved upon within the confines of the existing architecture.
Like I said, new FileSharing protocols will come up in the next 5 years.I've sumbitet todays news for review at FST news section. When It's approved by moderatrs I'll link it here.
Think about it. The internet is all about collaboration and communal sharing. In my opinion, BT represents exactly that...it's not going anywhere folks. People will get faster and faster connections, which will result in faster speeds for all users through BT. It will evolve in terms of efficiency (and/or name), but the general idea behind it won't die.
The bittorrent principals are here to stay. Its extremely efficent, and with fiber being deployed every where, we are heading for the golden age of p2p. I think trackers will evolve to removing ratios, and change the way they require you to contribute. I can easily see them doing freeleech permanently, but with required seeding times or until you hit 1.
As some1 mention be4,the idea will stay for ever, but the ways may be different.
forever!!
I do think Bittorrent is at its peek now.
So form there its usually just one way, and thats down, But i do still think we are going to be able to download form torrents in 6-7 years.
But im almost certain that there is going to be some new way to share files by then.
So File sharing will remain and but the way we do it may be abit different.
Edit:
Ohhh post 100 \o/
10 - 20 years for sure.
I dont think any other form of p2p is near as close to doing what torrents doing.
Maybe they will make torrents encrypted tracker side. Or Try making them trackerless which has been tried in the past. But either way I think future p2p methods will still revolve in some shape or form around the bittorrent protocols.
I think it'll be around for a good long while yet. I think it will be 'The' file sharing route for another 5 years or so before something better comes along, that will replace the most used way.
Nvm.
I think BT will change in 2-3 years because the RIAA.
I think less than 5 Years
Less then 5 Years
Be realistic its really too much it lasted from 2001 til now
I think more probably there'll be another invention
But if this wasnt true then the goverment would do smthing to stop it
BT will always be around but in 5 years it will probaly die down due to the fact that there will be a better p2p program
Finally found it again. I read an article a few months ago which talks about the a new protocol that sounds promissing. I could,'t find the exact article, but this one will do.

Yeah but even if that works, it will most likely be implemented into bittorrent. And not become its own protocol. Bittorrents extremely affective. I can see more security features, and other features to help improve publice use. But I dont see it going any where any time soon.
more than 10 year
