What do you think was a moment that defined Music History? I think that Nirvana coming into the music scene, was a great moment that defined Music. It killed the Hair Bands of the 80's and brought in a new style of music, Alternative. ;)

and ppl saw him dancing was a big thing, maybe it didnt define the Music, but sure it did define atleast one thing:
Sex Sells.
Music with heavy dose on Sexuality seems to be the fuel
on a lot of the so called Popular-Music these days.
Not bad from a man who didnt write his own music.
But defining one single event on Music history is pretty tuff question, i dont
really know the answer, I only know the Music that define great turning points
as I understand itself.
Personally i dont think Nirvana killed any Hair-bands as
you so respectfully claim, only thing that died was Mr.Cobain. ;)
And if i remember, their drummer had some hair too. :P
Is there bands who really says they are Alternative any more? Or
has the alternative music changed to something else?
I ask cuz i dont know any and i like alternative music.
Cheers:

Well thats my opinion...
I agree with this and the invention of the guitar.Quote:

The day Jon Bon Jovi was born ;)
I would have to say when Bruce Springsteen saved rock N roll it was starting to turn retro.
all I agree with the nirvana thing to
The two fingers that the punks gave to the progressive *yawn* rock bands like yes, elo etc was a turning point
Stock Aitken and Waterman's mass-production of few-hit-wonders was also an influence, but this time not a good one <_<
The day when Jimi Hendrix started to play guitar, he revolutionzed guitar paying.

  Still laughing my arse off about the Cobain thing. I suppose Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Butthole Surfers, Etc never existed in some peoples eyes!! As for Elvis being the first Pop ( Popular ) act, what about Sinatra or Nat King Cole they were enormous years before Elvis even came on the music scene. I could name a few incidents which have influenced the music scene,
The New York Dolls kicking off Garage-Punk in New York.
Kool Herc mixing records together.
Popularisation of the 45 single.
Teenagers getting more disposable income in the 1950's.
Pete Waterman introducing Ska and Reggae to a wider UK audience in the 1970's.
:D
Who cares...Ozzy is on different planet to the rest of us! :lol:Quote:

What I meant was that Waterman actually imported the records into this country first. Didn't want give the guy too much credit!! Dammers, etc certainly influenced the music scene by doing the music live - and very good it was too. Not my cup of tea though. ;)

A co-woker today, gave me a Janis Joplin mousepad. That was pretty significant.
Also, the Beach Boys release of "Good Vibrations".
The person said a moment...Not many moments...Meh...

well I can think of a really bad music history
when Briteny Spears came to the scene
Or when Michael Jackson turned white???
Something must have scared him. Possibly Lisa Marie Presley. :D
As for defining moments, surely when the Beatles hit the scene was pretty big? The first superband, for want of a better word.
