Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
I originally saw this at WB so I thought I would pass it along.
For now a temporary ban has been place on these clients as news from some of the users with security issues including the MPAA and RIAA. They are the most stable but issues with security is more important for the users, and the site. You guys got till friday to switch after that we will kill the rights to those that still decided to use it.
The versions will include 1.7, 1.71 and all betas, and any new utorrent
Its best to stick with 1.6 and 1.61 for now till the issue is resolved. Older utorrent before 1.6 is not suggested also, as those we also plan to ban
This was decided for your safety and ours.
link to utorrent 1.6 and 1.6.1

http://download.utorrent.com/1.6.1/utorrent.exe
I have read a little more elsewhere at utorrent.com in the forums where they discuss the new versions and the "extra" data being sent out.
You can check that HERE
For your own piece of mind, I would recommend checking your other trackers for any issues.

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
1.7.1 blows, indeed.
Constantly telling me that trackers are offline when they aren't. The bad thing is that these trackers can't get on the same page. One tracker bans 1.6.1 and another bans 1.7+.
Can't win for losing. :dabs:

It looks like that thing about sending your data to anti piracy organisation is false.

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
1.7 utoorent has some problems so it is good idea to stay with 1.6.1 version.. for some time later 1.7 version i think will be better than version 1.6.1..

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
I dont fix what aint broke. I am perfectly happy with 1.6 for now and with this 1.7 scandal that is being talked about everywhere but really not proven positively or negatively there is no reason for me to try it :D

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
I personally allowed 1.7.1 2 days ago...
I banned it yesterday from my site until I had time to investigate exactly what it was doing myself.
I logged and personally checked... 14 HRS worth of logs while using the client.
I didnt see any ips from the mpaa/riaa in the reported outgoing connection logs.
In my own personal opinion utorrent 1.7.1 is fine and is not reporting any information to any 3rd parties.
If you really want to 100% be sure of what the client is sending... your better off not taking any 1 persons judgement... check your own logs to see what its doing.
P.S. 1.6+ versions still work on my site. Personally I like 1.6 versions better than 1.7.1 anyways.

uTorrent sending your IP to the MPAA/RIAA is time delayed for a few weeks. It will look fine to everyone now, millions will download it, and then its all over.

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
we are still testing utorrent 1.7.1 and over the weekend we will ok it on wb or keep it on the ban list. Right now only thing holding it back is the fact that 1.7 does not send data right and update data right on wb. As far as 1.71 goes i am also hearing that this client is very buggy. So when testing is done we let you all know.
Utorrent 1.7 will stay banned and we are also going to start banning all beta clients for all clients.

They are going to do nothing but fuck up utorrent and ruin its name weather they are sending your IP address and information or not.

Why on earth would they pay good money for what is arguably the best bittorrent client around, only to trash it?
That just wouldn't make sense to anyone.

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
Had to switch to Azureus due to the ban of utorrent

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
So, which trackers still ban 1.7.1 build 3360 client?
-
Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
Ace Torrents lifted the ban

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
Will this private trackers ban Micrososft Windows users too? Since Microsoft is more untrustworthy than BitTorrent Inc. This is just plain stupid. There are no proofs that utorrent is sending any data to MPAA/RIAA. And the MPAA/RIAA don't even need this data, since they already have it. They can see the IP's of everybody who is downloading/seeding a torrent. They didn't need uTorrent for this.

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
well, I found 1 thing I really liked about 1.7.1. When you add a torrent, it shows the files in a directory tree.

Re: Utorrent 1.7 and above security in question! Check your trackers!
1.7.1 took about 30mb of ram. 1.6.1 takes about 3 mb.
