Are you using FAT32 ?
You can google disk mangement, there is a way to get those free space. I am not too sure- cos just shifted to vista
You can check your disk with some Harddisk diagnose programs...
it's a ntfs partition
Can you tell us what size it is in windows and what the actual size is?
Are you sure it is incorrect?
For example a 200GB drive will have capacity of about 186GB according to Windows.
This is because the drive manufacturers define 1GB as 1,000,000,000 whereas Windows defines 1GB as 1024x1024x1024 = 1,073,741,824.
off course i'm correct the partition has more free space that is showned
i now that hdd has less space the manufacturers definition
well start by stating what disk you have, what machine and what operating system. also state is disk new addition, or was it working properly and then started behaving strange.
maxtor 200gb with 2 diferent partitions, i'm using ntfs partition, with win xp pro sp2, the disk is not acting strange, it's fine
ok, let me rephrase few things. please post what's your computer configuration (processor/motherboard), what size of free space do you see and in what program and what size of free space do you expect to see. also write was free space reporting correctly before and then started reporting wrong, or it reported wrong from day one.
please don't skip any info :)
amd 3800+, msi neo4, when using windows this partition has 30gb, it has 25 gb full of files, and the others 5gb? it's the free space that i have. it says that i have 838 free mb
this started 1 week ago
ok one final thing is "it". where do you check for free space, in properties of a disk?
yes, and in acronis disk director, and it gives me the same free space
ok. start by checking following article and testing one thing at a time.
everything is fine, but i have the same problem
ok, back to one more thing.
where do you see size of partition(30GB), and where do you see size of files on disk(25GB)?
@ properties of a disk
what does acronis say? do you have acronis secure zone on disk?
How big is the MFT?
Is the 25GB the total amount of data, or the total disk space taken up by that data?
If it is the total amount of data, does it include any space occupied by hidden files?
Have you run CHKDSK?
I wonder if optimus_prime has qualified as a dentist yet, he must surely feel that getting relevant information from you is like pulling teeth.
