Windows ME is the worst OS from Mirco$oft, don't install it!
Upgrade to Windows 98SE if You don't already has the Second Edition (SE)
BOT

No!!!!
why not install win 2000? alot more stable than 98 or me.
edit: infact youd probably be able to instal xp, but make sure you turn off all the crap. i had xp on amd k6-2, 500mhz, with 256md ram and it was ok.
Never install that piece of shit Microsoft claims is an OS! Install Windows 2000 instead. It's based off of the NT kernel and is one of Microsoft's best OS. Plus, it runs great on older machines.
Windows 2000 is like the power behind xp... no resource hogs. ( u even make it run faster by turnin off all animated stuff it has)
i have me and it's ok nothing speacial though
Allow me to make a few comments.
Windows ME is worst than Windows 1.0-2.0.
Why?
Windows 1 had a lovely Reversi game and for what it did, had few errors. It started having errors when people asked too much of it.
Windows ME is worst than Windows 2.0.
Why?
Windows 2 was an upgrade to 1, which worked fine until people monkeyed with it. Windows ME is an upgrade to 98/98SE, which worked fine PERIOD. Strangely enough, ME doesn't work, which leads me to question the word upgrade.
I refuse to compare ME to 3.1/3.1.1, since those were some of the best darn OSs Windows ever made.
Basically, the only thing ME compares to is a half dead, fried by an electrical storm version of OS/2 that's been sitting in lava for several hours.
Try 2000, it works. Or, better yet, try avoiding Windows (lol).
If I can get an XP disc I will install that and turn off all the effects
If I install XP it wont mess my Username up will it?
What username?
when you log in
u will prob have to make a new one..
i agree windows 2k is the best resort to upgrading ur OS allmost like haveN XP but without all the bells and wistle(grafix)
if i ever had to use an other set of OS besides XP id go with windows 2k ;)
its just that good
I dunno. Obviously, you like file-sharing, and Windows 2000 has a set of firewalls that are either impossible or extremely difficult to disable. I'd go with XP if you have the power for it.
What the hell are you talking about? win2k doesnt have a built in firewall.Quote:

XP does. no disrespect but your info is bass ackwards
if you want good compatibility i recommand 98 se. almost EVERYTHING can run on 98 se. but the se is more stable. -_-
