Demonoid Shut Down by the CRIA

"TorrentFreak contacted some of the Demonoid administrators, but they are not sure what happened either. It is certainly possible that Demonoid’s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The Demonoid server is still pinging, but the ISP could have firewalled the everything after they received some serious legal threats. Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site is unreachable and has not responded yet.
This is not the first time Demonoid suffers major downtime due to pressure from the anti-piracy lobby. Demonoid had to move its servers from The Netherlands to Canada in June after The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN filed a subpoena against Demonoid’s ISP.

Unfortunately, it now seems that Canada is not the “safe haven” as they expected it to be."

this is bad news but is not confirmed yet. I'm sure they will be back.....hopefully. Many of the big torrent sites are getting a hammering this week, this is why there should be a lot more of tracker sites flooding the net so that a site here and there won't affect the torrent community

Sad news for lot of people.Demonoid was good place for mac users, nonenglish movies etc. and all in one place.

Where does the Pirate bay host? Maybe demonoid should just host with their company.

But yes, this is VERY bad news. I really hope they get back up.

As of Tuesday, 25th September 2007 Demonoid is down. Both the main torrent page and the forum (fora) are no longer accessible.

A semi-official statement was released approximately 18 hours after the site went offline:

Ok folks, here it is. Demonoid is down. It has been for aroun 18 hours. The reason is down is unkown. It hasnt been RAIDed, shutdown, terminated, deleted, burned, mamed, or thrown under a bridge. There have been speculation as demonoid.com whereabouts. Well the rurmors are false... "

Hopefully everything will turn out ok.It was one of the first trackers I used, and got me into using bittorrent instead of irc.

I really hope this speculations turn out to be false and it manages to come back. I love Demonoid!

Well they do have maintenance/backups everyday, so even if they are down for a while, if they choose to live on, they'll be able to restore themselves.
