Down with WIAW

I think we should just get rid of the WIAW thread all together. People quote it like its scripture. Many other forums do fine without a thread like that, and have a bigger variety of trades/giveaways because of not having one. This way users can determine what THEY feel the tracker is worth TO THEM, and decide to trade or give away invites based off of personal experience, instead of some whack post about rarity.

I mean come on, you ever see some one here take an oink invite and give TT? Happens elsewhere, but not here, just because of that thread people think "oh man, i can't trade it for that, its not worth the same" instead of thinking, "I need oink, i got this TT invite, so lets make a trade"

I'm not condoning trading with this post, in fact, I think it would help giveaways too. I just saw a user on another board give 3 TT invites away and the day before 6 oink invites. We maybe see 1 invite like that being givin every few weeks, and the giveaways take days.

Lets help new users see the torrent world the way it should be seen, down with WIAW!

Feel free to post your opinion here, with me or against me, I'd like to know what you all think about this idea.

Its not like the WIAW thread is doing so much good here that it is beyond critisism.

it's sad that people take the WIAW thread so seriously, but it has it's value. Helps keep the newbies from getting scammed :)

Wow, wish I would have seen that before. I kept looking for a new sticky on the invites section, no wonder I could not find it :P

And the powers that be saw a purpose when it was suggested/started originally, and the only way that will ever change, is if they see good reason to change it. If no one ever gathers peoples opinions, there will never be any reason to question it. But if a vast majority of people don't find use in it (I'm not saying that is the case) then why shouldn't it be considered to remove it? Isn't this site for the community, not the founders?

that's not going to happen unless people decide to contribute to the new thread with reviews and ratings.

Now, if u dont understand whats happening at fst heres a little detail for ya :

1) Traders only stop trading when they got into all the trackers they want, and then become community people and start posting as though they are elite

2) hardcore traders dont stop trading even then, they continue trading and finally , if they have resources, start trackers. of their own

3) Some traders who fail to trade join the anti trading bandwagon to make staff give them invites

4) there are some genuine people who are against trading or
dont trade. these are real community folk and are known widely throughout the community.


So thats what you have there... the wiaw will always be there for traders and the new thread for others.....

you should decide yourself what the tracker is worth to you.

if you like it, you don't want to lose it.

you don't need a ranking for this.

the problem is, that many people who start actually like the tracker their on. but then they see it is low ranked and it's not cool.

that's it - the hunt begins :D

your not getting the point of the post. he did not ask for a run down of how FST works. he simply wanted to know what people think of the WIAW thread.

What the WIAW thread does is make people into mindless morons who say "man I really need that FTN/SCT etc...its a level 9 uh.. can I get one man"

when they should first learn more about the community then deside if they want to pursue it.
then maybe the invite section would look more like "I heard FTN has a great Community with good speed and quality torrents"

I am not against or for trading but this is my opinion.

In the past, WIAW thread really influences newbies especially those that are just starting getting some trackers, I am one of them..... and now that another ranking system is existing this will help newbies to fully understand what really the trackers worth....So no need to get rid of the WIAW thread.:)

it is common for people for omit vital information about things in order to advocate or condemn.

WIAW thread does not just list the rarity. It also provides one complete list of the popular trackers with descriptions, and provides us with respected 'opinions' of those who compiled it.

And just because some people "quote it like scripture" doesn't mean every one should suffer. I think an unspoken social rule has been created that WIAW thread is NOT scripture; but semi-accurate, opinionated ratings.

If what I say is true, then condemning the WIAW thread because some people are too small-minded to disregard it as the de facto standard of all trading is fallacious.

The information contained in the thread is accurate and useful.

Various members interpretation of the thread is no reason to "get rid of it".

Dont need to get rid of it, just need another with even better tracker content information to accompany it so people can make a balanced decision. I dont think the wiaw has good detailed and uptodate content. personally find it hard to choose what tracker to go for and to be honest used to make decisions based purely on ranking instead.

Since I don't trade I don't really care. However, it's nice to be able to go in there and read a few reviews.

if you take down the WIAW , you take down a whole lotta tracker information with it .. the only problem with the WIAW is the "level" . but if you could just ignore it , its a perfect review thread :shutup:

WIAW thread is the most interesting thread on fst i think without it we willnt be able to make trading and we willnt get high trackers because without it who have tl will ask for ftwr to exchange it with WIAW thread must not be removed and i think it will be stupid to remove such athread which is the first thread that i open when i get in fst
