I was shouted at this morning
...because I was driving the new car and kept missing 3rd gear, putting it back into 1st instead:cry:
I think this was terribly unfair, as I've not even passed my driving test yet ( I've got my theory test tomorrow though, wish me luck)
Luckily I found out today that I perfectly capable of parallel parking, despite never actually having done it before:D

Re: I was shouted at this morning
Drivers get stressed easily, expect more shouting, just put some tunes on and ignore em :)

What sort of car is it? Most decent cars have something clever in the gearbox to stop that from happening :pinch:

Re: I was shouted at this morning
Er, was it your instructor shouting at you?

and how many times did you lose the gear to achieve that :hooray:
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning
everyone else is a terrible driver, you are the only person who can drive properly - never forget that
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning
True that. You always have to assume that is the case.
...except the guy that mowed down Seedler, I'd like to meet him/her and buy them a pint :smilie4:

Re: I was shouted at this morning
Dropping from 2nd to 1st after speeding up to go to 3rd gives the gerabox a good workout and is therapeutic for the neck muscles
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning
i don't drive real cars but in sega rally when you drop a gear you do a sweet power side round corners :smilie4:

I think if Skweeks does that in the new car the shouting will stop and all will go very quiet indeed.
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning

-
Re: I was shouted at this morning
I'm guessing it's Mr Skweeky doing the shouting

Good speech.

Re: I was shouted at this morning
't was Mr Skweeky doing the shouting.
I'd have slapped any driving instructor shouting at me.
Mr Skweeky just got an angry stare, after which he apologised profusely for raising his voice.

Re: I was shouted at this morning
Spouses teaching driving is always testing in my experience...

To be fair he was shouting "Sweet Jeebus, you're going to get us both killed woman, get off this fucking runway."
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning

No, he shouted ' Pull over, you're pushing it to the left!'
He's been teaching me for the past few months and we've been ok.
I think the grinding sound of the gearbox of a new car was too much for him to take
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning
Ah, he's talking pish.
You push a car to the right, you pull it to the left. The opposite is true in the USA and mainland Europe
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning
He meant the gearstick
I was pushing the gearstick to the left.
I was, at that point, convinced that I wasn't
Until I looked down and had to admit he was right... for once....
-
Re: I was shouted at this morning
You need to learn to hold your hand properly and that won't happen.
For 1st and 2nd hold the gearstick with your left thumb at the bottom and pinky at the top. Then push away from you.
For the other gears the thumb should be at the top and the pinky at the bottom. For 3rd and 4th simply push forward or pull back. For 5th pull towards you and forward.
It's very natural if you hold your hand the right way.
Does that make sence.

Re: I was shouted at this morning

Re: I was shouted at this morning
I did a lot of stupid things when I was learning to drive, but the actual operation of the vehicle was never a problem....I don't think I could even get the wrong gear on purpose. Took me about 130 hours of lessons and two tests to pass tho'.

Re: I was shouted at this morning

Re: I was shouted at this morning

I remember when I was learning how to drive. Seems like it was just yesterday.
Probably because it was.
Shut up you.
Anyways, got my car. Knew fuck all on how to drive period. Plus it's a manual transmission. Spent two hours in a parking lot, then another two on the road then yeppie down to the DMV.
Got my license.
All in one day?
No, prick these hours spanned across one week.
