could we have the guestroom back as it used to be?
First of all why???
2nd its much better and faster so far and I havn't had the forum screen of death yet

mostly crap was posted thre anyway
My vote in a poll, at the moment, would be against your question. This is the classic situation where a few have spoiled it for the majority.Quote:

This is, I understand to be, an experiment.

I think your "we" is refering to the majority of spammers in the guest room.

If the "guests" would just read the FAQ, 99% of their problems would be solved. But they don't, and as a result, there's a lot of HELP ME! posts that are spammed repeatedly. And there's the flamebait, but that's really another matter entirely.

Is anyone else noticing that spyware is the only one defending the Guestroom?
Not surprising <_< Keep the guestroom shut IMO
The workload has been reduced Dramatically!! I am in no hurry to see another guest room like that one had become.
Yes i had noticed that too and i agree with you, keep it shut and make everyone register who wants to contribute. ;)Quote:

Has anyone thought about running a poll to see what the general feeling is about keeping the spamroom....sorry guestroom (typo) :P shut. For the record I go with almost everyone else in this topic, well in fact everyone bar one and will be happy if it remains closed. It's nice to be able to come in here without getting the Screen of Death on a regular basis. :)
I do not want the Guestroom back.
I agree with that N£MOQuote:
make everyone register who wants to contribute
There's so many guest that post crap about filesharing, riaa et cetera.

Next time I go to say this please stop me as sod and all his laws were waiting for me and I got 'The Screen' about 2 clicks later. :rolleyes:Quote:

I agree with N£MO an [B][O][T], it may mean a lot of new users but I always think if people have to make some kind of effort (in this case going through the registration process) before they do something meaninless like spamming then they won't bother. I for one could go without seeing yet another 'Why do people post fakes' topic on a daily basis.
same here don't want it back :D
I don't care whether it comes back or not, but it isn't going to prevent the 'too many connections' error.
When that happens, it is almost ALWAYS at 2 mins past the hour, there is no way that the number of guests could cause that sort of problem. The only thing that could cause that is some sort of scheduled task being performed on the server, delaying sql queries and causing a build up of connections. It obviously takes a couple of minutes for these to build up to the 'too many connections' error.
VB needs to talk to Jon and find out what is run 'on the hour' and determine if there is anything that can be done so prevent them overloading the server in the way they do.
I would dearly love that to be the case, and if it reduces the white SOD then i'm happy with losing the guest room, but we're just gonna get those same kinda posts in a different section of the forum (probably in the wrong section of the forum <_< )Quote:

Big words for a newcomer. It's apparent you have no idea behind the issue. http://www.chinkii.com/uploads/album/misc/newbie.gif
It's strange that the only one who wants the guestroom open is called Spyware. Spyware you should realise that there is no spyware in K-Lite. (coincidental I suppose! ):D (only joking spyware) Now that the work load has been reduced there might be some redundancies amongst the moderators!
I take it that this'll mean a well-deserved 'Request Denied' by the team. :D
What do you mean "no discussion about it"? It seems to me that the discussion has pointed out that "We" don't want it back. :PQuote:
We Want The Guestroom Back, no discussion about it.
What ever happened to VBs idea to use that 'temporary maintenence board' for the guestroom?
As far as I know, VB's still using it as a temporary measure. Temporary can be as long as it can be, though. Divine Divinity's still only got a "temporary" patch. ;)
Edit: Nevermind. I just saw that the Guestroom was unavailable for viewing. I feel it's safe to say that's because of my lack of sleep. ;) If everyone knows, then I have a free pass for the rest of the day.

Come to think of it, why do people post so many fakes???
:D :D :D
No guestroom anymore...hooray!!!!! :D
They can read FAQ
They can register in 10 seconds, literally.
They post or registered users posted verifies in there and that is not allowed by the board software creators.
List goes on, if they want something take 10 seconds to register, 10 seconds can be worth a lot more
Getting rid of the Guestroom - it's about time in my opinion. If people want to contribute then they can join - we all did!!! If it helps the Board run smoother all the better. Now we can have a Sportsworld!!

I probably would have been sympathetic with your position.
It is sad that there will be a few people who will
be intimitated by the "membership" issue and not join / receive help. :(
But I saw the crap that was being posted yesterday.
From malcontents / RIAA stooges / idiots.
There weren't going to move on.

I've only had to purge the forum connections once since the Guestroom was closed, compared with 3 or 4 times a day previously, and the purge script ran a lot more quickly.

Anyway, I have missed a lot of the discussion. Was there a reason we closed the guestroom.
Or was it just because we were sick of all the repetitive rabble rousing drivel that was constantly being posted there.
Either way it seems to have improved the rest of the board no end.
