proxies are a pain in the arse though unless you can find a real decent one with high uptime.

Free proxy servers are almost always guaranteed to give poor service. If you're really looking for something that will IMPROVE the quality of your net experience, I'd recommend looking for a service online that will rent to you an extremely high-bandwidth proxy server for about 5 dollars (US) a month. That is the sort of thing which will DRASTICALLY increase the speed of your connection, especially on dialup.

It's also freeware, hope that doesn't offend anyone.

Ok I'm about ready to give up on this proxy thing. Just when I was barely grasping the concepts, I lost everything. BabyGeniuses I was trying to find this this and I got sidetracked (another ip spoofing thread), now I'm totally confused. How come, for instance, you cannot select port 1080 on the free proxy tester pages? If socks5 is a proxy then why is it not mentioned? If I use a proxy it has to go through my isp, right? I cannot directly connect to the proxy, ah nevermind this was not meant for me.

look at it this way, its like you (your ip) comes to my house (proxy server) and then you change into my cloths an put on a mask and now you can not be recognised (new ip adress) and then you leave my house out the back door and go back out, now no body recognises you, so they don't know you are you, they think you are me or something like that, and only way for them to know who you are is to trace you back to my house and if my house is off limit to them for one reason or another (lets say i'm over seas) than they have no way of knowing who you are, now tha is a very broad explaination, there is more to it but you should get the idea i hopehttp://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/b/smiley2k.gif

yeee haaaa I just got my first taste of proxy and i am happy but a little curious. Surfing the net is the same except when I google, it redirects to the google site for the country the proxy is in (eastern europe) so therefore it looks diff. Also this site looks slightly diff. Who cares I did a free online netscan and it didn't show my computer name or ip so i say GREEAATTTT!!!!
