How do you stop RIAA from scanning us and i dentify us?
do not use port 1214 for a start, use port 2464 instead (options>k-lite options>firewall).
then, use a good antivirus program to make sure no one can hack your system.
finally use peerguardian for extra protection from bad IP ranges (not full protection though).

Where u get 2464 from?
You can't totally stop them unless you change file sharing systems. They will always be able to access from certain ports. But Peerguardian and changing your port will help them not be able to scan allyour files.
me and some of my friends decided that we would test some ports to see which one would work best.
after alot of testing, it turned out that 2464 was the best

Oh my, I'me gonna keep quiet this time, altough I will say changing your port in KaZaa does NOT turn 1214 off, thus those that are scanning for 1214, which is the famous KaZaa port WILL find you. You MUST check the "Disable Port 1214" option in KaZaa Lite K++ Options. This stops those coperations that are doing random port scanning from finding you on 1214.
Also make sure vto check the "Users Can't Get A List Of Your Shared Files". This will only allow them to see a single file at atime in Search. Since generally they find the offending material and then attempt to look at your shared folder, if this is checked they cannot see all your files at once. Consisering they're looking for large sharers, this option stops them from seeing how many files you have.
Also the new KL++ 2.42 has an Auto IP Updater built in which will stop know hostiles from connecting to you.

I was downloading a movie while someone else was downloading videogames from me. (I had a few mp3s up, however only video games, movies and porn were being tradeed last night when I received THIS RIAA WARNING:

Keep in mind that Im running the latest version of Kazaa Lite.. it's only a few days old. It's suposed to stop them from getting one's ip address.... Well I dont know if they got my address or not, but I have a feeling that anyone that was to reply back to one of the riaa instant mesages would be showing there ip address via the reply...
I really feel that the EarthStation5's file sharing browser goes light years beyound what these Kazaa hacks have done. http://www.earthstationv.com/ - Just read up on all the technicall things that they have impleneted to that program to keep the file shares SAFE- there are many more safegaurds built into Earthsation5 than there now in Kazaaa Lite... I just cant understand why they sent me that letter when no music was being transfered... unless they still have a means to see all files share by a user (i thought the lattest kazaa lite said feature was disabled)

If I am not mistaken they intend to send millions of these messages to anyone sharing mp3's, many of us such as myself have turned messaging off for this reason. All that is needed for them to send you this message is for them to find one item from you within a search. However if you have done the others satated above it is unlikely taht this will go any further since they have spotted only the one file. Although if you had not blocked viewing of files they could have taken a snapshop of all you are sharing.Quote:

I went back to double check, and yes Kazaa Lite was checked not let anyone see what I share... which I gather means they can see a single file.
The really funny thing is that I mainly use Kazaa Lite for movies/warez and roms. I hardly ever get into the music thing in a big way.
Its a scare campaign that will end soon enough.

Get a firewall
Firewall can make your port not responding to ICMP package and make your port 1214 unaccessible(EXCEPT P2P PROGRAM)
If you get a good firewall(ZoneAlarm,Sygate,etc.)
When an ICMP package(which PING use)comes in,
your computer still get the package,
but WILL NOT RESPOND TO THEIR COMPUTER,
THEY WILL THINK THAT YOUR COMPUTER WAS SHUTTED DOWN
Warning:Firewall can ONLY protect you from AUTOMATED SCANNING PROGRAM(Such as NetBrute).If RIAA download KaZaA program and log in as a user,download from you,and get your IP,then FIREWALL WILL HAVE NO EFFECT.(Your P2P program will respond to it^^)

Good advice as well, I use Zone Alarm 4.0, and it is very effective at blocking the extra garbage.
I am truly struggling with this all this technical stuff. I'm learning but it's coming slow. I'd like to contribute more. But for now, I have more questions than answers. So please bear with me.
I have Time-Warner Cable as my ISP. If I'm correct, they are represented by RIAA. I can't block Time Warner because if I do, then I won't get access to the web.
I have Zone Alarm Pro 4.0. I know that Time Warner should not be in the "Trusted" zone. But, I have them included in the "Internet Zone". Is this correct? Any help?

Take myself for example.I use 56K dial up modem and I use ZoneAlarm Pro 4.I allow my dial up Program,Internet Explorer to access the Internet,and I am now surfing www.k-lite.tk.However,if my ISP try to use automated scanning program to spoof me,then sorry,NO RESPOND(Since I only allow IE and certain programs).A graph may describe it:

On the subject of firewalls.. I have used a ZoneAlarm since the very first weeks it came out- I'm a big fan of it.
But there is no doubt in my mind now as to what the RIAA is doing (in part). I think they are sending out these warnings to about every file sharer of even a single mp3. It's pretty crazy when I think back to the night I got that RIAA pm- NO MUSIC TRANSFERS WERE GOING ON AT THAT TIME. It looks like a song came up on a search- and then an auto-bot sent out the pm without even a download of the mp3.
Lets face it: Kazaa/Kazaa Lite is almost the entire focus of the RIAA right now. I find myself using Earthstation5 more and more these days.
I think future versions of Kazaa Lite should entirely remove the pm funtion to send other users messages. At this time it's a tool for the dark side. :rolleyes:
I can only add that as of recent I believe they are logged in as SuperNodes, thus they be capturing request and sending messages perhaps. Though again, turn it off.

That seems to be the lesson learned here. Almost all of the news about the RIAA recently seems to be in regards to Kazaa/Kazaa Lite.
What about all of the news groups that charge $$ for gigs of music? What about WinMX (very popular among 320 bps mp3 fans) and other p2p programs? One cant find much in the media about the RIAA geting involved with them at all. It seems like it's entirely Kazaa/Kazaa Lite focused. :angry:
Can't the creator os kazza lite come up with a way to fight of the evil RIAA like make a kazza lite where it steath your ips and stuff turns off all message, covers all ports stealth, make it like your not actually doing anything.

And they also have at least a list of 1 file that you were sharing that they say you shouldn't be. :(
If someone is downloading/uploading to me OR I spot a file they're sharing in a search, I can get their ip without sending them a message EVEN if they have show files disabled. Replying back probably won't help/hurt -- although with good network monitoring/logging software, you could catch where the message TRIES to reply back to if you reply to it. B)

I'm still banking on Earthstation 5 to be more effective for file sharers. From all I read (for the paranoid people like me) Earthstation 5 makes a much more serious attempt at security for file sharers. How can Kazaa Lite claim the ip of sharers is invisable? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but anyone extremely concerned about privacy should learn the basics of IPSEC (Internet Protocol Security)
It's a policy management system for Windows NT-based operating systems (except XP Home, and Media Edition), that allows blocking based on IP blocs and ports.
With a good background in IPSEC policy construction, you can assemble a good set of rules and never have to worry about the RIAA again, or worry about installing firewalls, most of which are designed for end-users, and don't provide the level of protection that would really frighten the RIAA, (such as what Symantec Velociraptor provides)
