i'd say yeah, go on
it'll last for years...
If you're really worried about your drive's quality, I'd go with a RAID Array; level 0 or 1.
A good level 0 RAID disk drive will spread about blocks of your files amongst itself and its friends in the array (other drives), evening out wear and tear from over-usage and also helping to improve performance through data striping.
A good level 1 RAID disk drive will also provide disk mirroring capabilities.
I'm sure you could find more about RAID technologies by looking through Webopedia.com, if you're interested.
To give you an idea of pricing:
Top of the line RAID servers (blackmount/point) go for about 15 grand each.
But top of the servers usually include 4 gigs of RAM (ECC), 2/2.4 terabytes of storage space, and P4 processor (3 gig).
You'll probably be able to setup a nice 200 gig RAID array for maybe 300 to 500 bucks.
pci ultra ATA 66/100/133 raid 0,1 and 0+1. suports hdd upto 128GB - 35.00 (excluding VAT) - available from CPC - www.cpc.co.uk
I wouldnt buy RAID or SCIS or whatever...i mean it spins faster..big deal and its smaller and WAY to much money..i like ata or w/e...get a good 80 or 120 GB one for cheap! ;)
Where are you from and how much are you willing to pay?Quote:

External HDD are coming pretty cheaper nowadays. I am talking WD Or Maxtor 7200 RPM and 8 MB cache.
buy a WD 250 GB SATA.
haha man he might not even have high speed and need that room! lol if you dont need a LOT of room then 40 is good...but if u have dsl or cable then at least 80 i would say..thats what i have and i only have like 15 GB left....and there cheap
time to buy a pack of CD-R's and move stuff off of your hard drive, dude. ;)Quote:

what about buying a new hdd from an american site and getting it delivered by train or even air mail...?Quote:

this could be cheaper than paying canadian prices
p.s. the prices in the uk are pretty bad, worse than canada anyway. don't think that'll console you though...

he wanted the package to go from scotland to germany and it only cost him 45 pence (approx $0.30), so it's not as expensive as i thought
also, canada is a lot closer to the u.s. than scotland is to germany :P
don't you guys get currency conversion for free? we do in the u.k.
Go for it Keikan.
A 60GB Drive would do nicely, right in the middle....but it's kind a a weird size to find.
But any size will certainly be an improvement over your current 6.
Your MoBo probably doesn't support Serial ATA, and purchasing a RAID controller or SCSI card is a bit over the
top for someone just wanting to add a single drive. A 7200 RPM UDMA drive would be fine, IMO.
Here's a nice 60GB Maxtor ATA/133 7200RPM with free groovy round IDE cables, and free shipping, at Googlegear.com,
for $82. That's US currency, Canadian= 114.66.
I've bought several things from them in the past, and they have excellent service.
Whatever you decide..
goodluck ;)
$119 CDN. at MB, Keikan?
And don't forget about the customs between USA and Canada. They like their cut too. :(
