Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?
Hi guys
Have any of you tried the Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on a box? How is it compared to The "normal" Windows 2003 Server, what are the advantages/disadvantages when running ex. uTorrent?
Anything else worth knowing about the Web Edition?
Thank's for any feedback!

only real difference is that the web edition only allows about 3 RDP versus the regular allows alot more.
TBH the web version is alot cheaper to license and a great option for torrenting.

The web edition is designed for exactly that web services, the difference is that it has all of the local control (Domain control, local user management CAL's) are disabled , these are things that are not needed on a webserver anyway so for a seedbox Web Ed is a far better choice since it consumes far less resources than the Std Ed, and runs only the services which are needed for a web server.
Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?
I used web edition for two month and didn't have any problem using utorrent.. ^^
Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?
Sorry for not replying earlier, but had some serious issues logging on to FST!!!
I just thought that the web edition only allowed 10 concurrent connections?
Can I still add users and use the Terminal services manager and so on? Is all the Admin tools available?
Thank's a lot :)
Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?
Nah im pretty sure it dont allow 10 not web.
3 diffenat users or 3 concurrent connections.
Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?

Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?
Great bump!
Install a windows server, such as filezilla server, set it up for you as you prefer (change default port number for one), add yourself as a user with a password, set your home directory, use your own PC FTP client to log into your server via the ip & port number and username & password. Clear?? :P

Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?
Don't forget to disable windows firewall to connect, it is normally set as default to ON, change to OFF, sometimes this cause a headache as to why a lot of people can't connect to their box.

hrishi2das
how did you do that?
The Web editions significant difference is also that it uses jut 2GB of RAM
and to have more you need server 2003 Standard. and no way around.
Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?

Re: Windows 2003 Server Web Edition on box?
I have windows web + utorrent on my seedbox and never had any problems with it. One thing to remember is that the web edition only supports upto 2GB RAM. I use GuildFTP to transfer files to my pc and can always max out my home connection.
