Oh did you see the Pratchet or do you want it sended. I've downloaded it.
JP Is there anybody else out there who writes like pratchet, in relation to sarcasm, humor, scinisism and general dual playing off today's banalities in a ridiculous way?
Would be mucho obliged if you do suggest a one or two.
Ah, nvm, misread little part of topic...
@101%
Jeremy Clarkson
Have you read Kurt Vonnegut. Genius.
Not the same style as Pratchett but everyone must read his stuff. I think there may be a law about it.
:lo: Interesting choice.... indeed along his and pratchet's mentality would be fine.
or does no one else exist?
will look into Vonnegut
Douglas Adams, obviously.
His discussions with regard a packet of biscuits and a misunderstanding are a searing indictment on what it means to be British and in particular middle Englandish.
If you haven't read PG Wodehouse you haven't seen what can be done with words. The way he puts them together is fantastic.
Keep them coming.
Is there anybody who basically writes like you?
not taking the piss or anything but i would really enjoy a book written by you.
zed, btw: You could give some of neil gaiman's lighter work a bash if you like Pratchett. You could start off with the one he and Pratchett co-wrote, even, Good Omens. After that, neverwhere might be well worth a read.
Good Omens is a good idea.
There's also the Pratchett non discworld stuff if you haven't read that. Mostly aimed at the kids but you might like it if you like his style.
The one thing i find sad about pratchet is that he never applied his "game" on todays society and instead chose to do it indirectly behind the shield of the genre of "wizardry"
and hence got anally fucked by hogwarths.
if only he could have played his words more directly on todays life.
Aren't there any young writers, who speak todays language with his humor.
Charles Stross with the Jennifer Morgue is kind of funny :idunno:
I would go for Bill Bryson, absolutely genious that man!
Try Tom Sharpe, he's really funny and reminds me of Pratchett a wee bit. If you're looking for some dark freaky stuff, give Patrick McGrath's 'Spider' a go. Fucking weirdest book I've ever read in my life, but very very good.
And JP, if you could send the Pratchett thing, I would be eternally greatful.
That one worked especially well for me 'cos of what and who I'm working with, though. The epilogue was far too familiar :pinch:
The Morgue, I mean.
Will check into all of the above, merci, takk, gracias, gindobre
Robert Rankin is good fun if a bit off the wall - books like Armageddon the B Movie are worth a look.
Oh and Nostradamus ate my Hamster.
JP have you ever considered writing a novel / book / article / note ?
I think JP would be good at writing notes.
It's good that some people still respect the English grammar.
And it's better when you see old members try to discipline newbs.
Mr JP Fugley
don't you think we should open a school?
jp is a fred perfectionist :eyebrows:
for fucks sake sue grimms
looks better
Barbie should definitely read jennifer morgue. Also true story.
