I can only upload at 30-40 kbps, so I might be at a disadvantage if I join Bitme. Is it hard to keep a ratio on there? Any tips you could spare?
I always keep ALL of the torrents that I download to seed, and prune inactive ones at the end of the month.
My friend is willing to give me an invite, but I don't want to waste it if I won't be able to use it.

No - it's not hard to seed and to keep a good ratio, anything above 1 is considered a good ratio anyway, and if you think you can use what's on offer, then by all means take it, never be scared to try something and if it doesn't suit get your account deleted.

Well small advice don't jump on huge files or old files fast
Old files will not be good option also big ones
Build some ratio with new torrents and seed like hell
If u got seedbox thats great to make some buffer if not and cant keep great ratio
Them donate option for 5 GB is great too
i would say bitme.org is pretty simple to keep a good ratio since everyone can upload. They don't have many torrents with a high leechers count so if your planning on up your ratio by just downloading is gonna be hard at bitme.org no matter what connection you have. But i've been a member there for a week now and i have 54 gigs uploaded which i uploaded on my first 3 days. Now i have a good buffer to download. So take my recommendation is to take the invite and try to find something to upload.
Every time I get a new tracker I partial seed a NEW torrent just to get a feel of the speeds. Doesn't hurt to do.
On the contrary, I find it to be a medium to easy tracker to maintain a good ratio on. There are those that are similarily named and differently aimed that are much harder. ;)
If you can't seed hard, seed smart. You'll be fine if you're reasonable. Most of the files are pretty small. You won't want everything there. People keep their ratio on much tougher sites with that speed, so can you if you use it wisely.

If you find a good torrent then it's not that hard
When my connection was about the same as yours, I had no problem keeping a decent ratio. Beware of larger files, and documentaries that are bigger - try to jump on those early and dedicated your full bandwidth to them if possible. But the smaller ebooks and things like that will be very easy to seed well over 1.
If ever having an issues, you can usually just keep things seeding for a longer time period and they'll even out.
It's more strategic to stay over 1.0 compared to quite a few other trackers, but it's definitely feasible.

what i have done:
-check new torrents that have onle 1 seed.
-see if they are popular/good torrents (i.e. Lynda.com torrents are VERY popular).
-be one of the first to get the torrent (or be the third one... by another hour it will have 13 leechers)
-dedicate your full bw to it.
i have the same speed that you have, and i have a very good ratio there. its not really that hard
or just keep seeding, even if nothing happens
one day i woke up and my ratio had gone from 1 to 3
you can upload it much easy!
just look for fresh torrents with 1 seeder and X amount of leechers.
its quite easy since u dont need to be a uploader to upload stuff
Just seed back and don't leech like crazy.

I only download documentaries from BitMe and even using a seedbox, its not the easiest site to build a good ratio.
Its not super easy, but its definitely not like its TV relative.
its pretty easy to seed if u jump on new popular torrents at time :)
