I'm new to Linux but where should i start ,which 1 would be the easiest one to operate and least amount of problems
1 Ubuntu
2 openSUSE
3 Fedora
4 Mint
5 PCLinuxOS
6 Mandriva

Ubuntu, Mint or PCLinuxOS... i guess
I' looking towards Mint or PCLinuxOS.
Ubuntu is a breeze to install and use and if you're trying linux for the first time this is definitely the way to go. I really prefer the clean look of debian though.
or opensuse 11.0 with kde 3.5.9 not kde 4... if you want a very stable system but with very new software..
i use opensuse 11 with kde 4 and i must say, it isn't so bad.. i have never seen a bug or so but i use it only for messaging, internet, media playet etc. not very special things..

Ubuntu should be a good starting distro , it has a huge and very active community , and is pretty "easy to use"...
ubuntu... so easy to get up and running... easier than starting installing windows from scratch :)
I didn't have any experience with linux and i found ubuntu very user friendly so i would definetely recommend it

What are the main differnces between Ubuntu and Kubuntu. And does everything that is used in or for Ubuntu work with Kubuntu?
I used Ubuntu before for a while, then switched to LinuxMint. But I'm now I'm wanting to go back to Ubuntu. But...if there's any advantages of Kubuntu, then maybe I'll go with that.
I'll just check it out on a LiveCD and see how it is for myself, but wouldn`t mind reading your guys' opinions of the two.
Try Ubuntu, it's the most user friendly of them... and it's fun to play with :)

Thanks. I just went ahead and re-installed Ubuntu 8.04. I'm updating to 8.10 right now. I made a separate partition just to test out distro's. So I'm going to through Kubuntu on it soon and see how it is. After that I'm going to try out Debian and Fedora. Although I think those are more of "advanced" distros and might not suit me very well.
Ubuntu is based on Debian, so the command structure is virtually identical. Fedora is another branch of Linux based on RedHat and so uses different install tools and some commandlines. If you are comfortable with Ubuntu then Debian will seem very much the same. As for Kubuntu it just uses the KDE desktop environment (which I personally prefer) rather than Gnome, but my own current favorite distro is LinuxMint Elyssa which is a variation of Ubuntu, but has some handy extra utilities and some specialised artwork.

I used to use Kubuntu, but I recently installed Ubuntu. I've played with Mint a bit too, but you should be pretty safe with Ubuntu if you're just starting out.
i used ubuntu, as most of us did here, but recently i switched to debian, and i'm enjoying what i see.
I like Ubuntu, there is a lot of community support for it.

u can start with mandriva, fedora, opensuse, ubuntu or gentoo and when u will be more experimented and u want a real linux distribution u can try debian or slackware..
good to try are xandros oce or knoppix..
other distributions are not so good and are mostly based on those i mentioned before!!
i started using ubuntu, but now its starting to be a bit slow (not that my computer's great either). debian seems to be the best fit for almost any computer. i like how it runs smooth.

Ubuntu (or SuperUbuntu :http://hacktolive.org/wiki/Super_Ubuntu ...there is "wine" if W miss you :) ) is really easy when you begin ...and when you ll learn ...jump on FreeBSD.

Ubuntu or mint. Mint I believe has a roll-back feature built in, and it supports multimedia files out of the box i think.

Ubuntu is the easiest through my own experience. Try that.
I recommend archlinux , it's easy once you read the wiki and very fast . Also it's optimized for i686 architecture whereas most of the other distros are not . Give it a shot
Start with ubuntu because it has an awesome community, then be special.
