Hello i was wondering that if you went to an art college would they teach you other lessons such as english (which i dont want to take )

I am not sure but I presume by the time you can go to art college, it would be presumed that your grasp of the english language would not necessitate further schooling......

If it's in the US, and it's an accredited college, then, yes, you'll probably have to take english and a whole bunch of other core classes.

why is it people find it funny or laugh when some student say they major in art?
i mean what's wrong with art, it's still a major
and people laugh at art students as though they have no future.
We need more artists and not stupid scientists!!!

being an artist doesn't mean you have to draw stuff, a lot of artists are singers, song composers, musicians, graphic designers, computer animators, and lots of other stuff.
that is what's happening at schools around the world, too many people want to be doctors lawyers, biotech monbo jombos, when in fact they are not fit to do that job at all.
we young people need to think about interests and not "oh will i get a job when i graduate", or "ok i'll major in this because it's hot and i will make lots of money in the future"

P.S. did you know that 70% of people whose jobs have absolutely nothing to do with what they've learned in college/university?
You usually need at least a grade C in Maths & English at GCSE if you don't want to take them at college.Quote:

If you are in the UK you are likely to need to have achieved a pass in English at a fair standard, to get into a decent institution.
However once you get it then it is unlikely that you will have to continue studying it. If you think about it most people do not study English in further education. I sometimes question whether the syudents doing an English degree actually study it.
I would suggest that if you are in Scotland it would be a good idea to get a Higher English. If you are in England then at least get a Good level O Grade, for preference an A level.
I am given to understand that you can do Media Studies at Cardonald College, with only one higher. That is just a rumour tho'.

Gemby It depends what type of college that you intend to attend. If you attend your local college they will probably include lessons in english up to 'A' level. But dont be too worried about that. The teaching environment at colleges is a lot more relaxed and friendlier than school. In fact, you may find english a lot more interesting than you think. Good luck.

JP You would not be suggesting that you may not have to be too bright to get into Cardonald in anyway, would you?
I don't know how things are in England but here, it's the most sought after educations that demand the highest grades, and not always the most demanding ones, meaning that you might have trouble getting in to art-school, if it's a popular education, if your grades aren't good enough in subjects you'll never need.
basically the system sucks, here anyway. :(
In Scotland to get into art school I think you need higher english.
It isn't all about painting and drawing, there is alot of essay writing involved in the history of art side of things.

Gemby, from my experience being a good/talented artist won't get you very far.
You also need to market yourself well and have at least a modicum of business experience.
In other words, a good all around education with emphasis on art ( of whatever stripe) will get you the furthest.
i dont plan to just do art thats why im asking if they teach other lessons as i would do english aswell as history (mayb) or even some other things :P
