firstly yes it is free to play online
i downloaded the game but couldnt get it to work :P (might try again another time tho)
I have only heard good things about this game but apperently it takes a bit of getting used to and the people that play multiplayer are very good.
I've played it. It seems to be very good. I couldn't get online though.
Dude, what version are you looking at? The one I downloaded a while ago (v1.70) is only 387MB.Quote:

That being said, it is a pretty good game. It's tough, though. Oh man did I try to get a sniper qualification, but no luck. :(
the full 1.90 version from the official site is 604.85MBQuote:

it's a good job i've just got adsl today, however, because i'm dling from the free server, i've been getting 'only' 20kB/sec all day long
only about an hour to go now though...
Just go to a recrute place for the army and they give them out free. I think the server is down cu zi cant get online. So you'll only be able to do the trainingm, witch only last like 5 min.
i'm from the uk
i believe the america's army game is only available in america (though i think i read about sas teams in the game...?)
hmm well just download it, you have broadband now so i think it wouldnt take long.
i've been downloading it since just after i posted the first comment in this threadQuote:

the problem is that the only free source is on a public server, which severely limits the available bandwidth
plus of course, i've been dling other stuff...
That game is great and there is people from diferent countries. i do really recommend that game :D
:o That's a hell of a jump in size for what's supposedly minor revisions. Wow.Quote:

but they mentioned on the official site that it was a pretty major overhaul...so that might justify the huge leap in size..
anyway...downloaded it sometime ago..but havent installed n played it yet...so i cant comment on the game as yet...
btw...i dun think itz worth the money to pay to dl a free game...jus go look for an alternate source...
try nvdia's download page for a start...

Indeed the jump WAS impressive and that's the reason they omitted v. 1.8 !
They fixed sound, a lot of glitches (not being able to pick up friendly weapons in 1.7) & much much more.. oh, the enemy isn't the spitting image of the taliban anymore.. I wonder.. nah..
Been playing the game for months now and although this is a cunning strategy of the americans to bring their army in good perspective it is ONE HELL OF A GAME.
U think standing behind a door is safe ?
Think again when an opponent unleashes his SAW (M-249) upon your ass THROUGH the door :D
Grenades bouncing back in your face is yet another treat..
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 9/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Social life: -2/10
& would you believe it.. the special forces are coming up in v.2 to be released very soon :santa:
Wow good tip, downloaded in 25 minutes from hereQuote:

/me done like aa
AA is a great game. I've been playing it for almost 6 months now.
i dont know where ur downloading to only get 20 kb/s
but from FileFront even on the non-pay slow one, i got 210 kb/s
here:
http://www.filefront.com/r.b/page__file_in...xe/_output.html
the nvidia ftp servers are amazing.. i was talking to this guy with a t3, said he was dl at 2MB yes 2MEGABYTES/s... my connection is maxed out.. im dl at 156KB/s off it.
I was a grunt in the Marine Corps and because of that, I can usually pick out fake things in a military fps game. I have played the following military FPS and rate them for realism in order. They are:
1. America's Army
2. Operation Flashpoint
3. Medal of Honor
You have a lot of control over your player in AA. You can crouch, laydown, walk, fast walk, run, and jump. You have a lot of communication options. One feature that I like is the detail in grenade actions. You can throw the grenade, release the spoon(cook)..then throw, roll the grenade, or cook and roll. They all have their applications. The detail in the M203 Grenade Launcher is realistic. If you fire a M203 grenade and it hits too close, it will not explode. This is because a M203 grenade launcher barrel is rifled and causes the round to rotate in the barrel. This rotation causes a centrifugal force on the grenade round and then arms the grenade no closer than roughly 25 meters. This is a safety characteristic. Little things like this are what make this game really good. I can go on and on about the detail they put into this game. In Medal of Honor, if you shoot a regular rifle at the enemy that is far away(really far), you will not hit them. It's just programed that way. In AA, you can be killed or kill regardless of the distance. If the bullet can go that far, they are dead, or the other way around. Sometimes all you hear is a faint gun sound, but really hear the bullets hitting the dirt (or flesh)around you. Now, in v.1.9, they have Medics and they actually stick a thermometer up your ass to check your temp...just playing. Actually, they stop you from bleeding to death. If you are hurt bad enough, you will bleed to death. So you have to call for a medic.
Operation Flashpoint is a good game also. The maps are huge and you can go anywhere, in any vehicle. You have a better selection of weapons also. The only drawback is the Multiplayer aspect to this game....it sucks. You have to wait to get a team built, and half the time it is full of bugs. I dont like single player games. Even with good AI, it gets repetitive. Playing against "real" people is much more challenging. No game is ever the same. I play under the same name and currently have an Honor of 30. You can usually find me on the Pipeline map. I don't claim to be an expert at this game, but you'll get some kids who do take it serious and think it is the real world. haha. I just like to have fun with it. Anyway, I highly recomend AA.
thanks for the input, CPL_P_USMC
i'm actually re-downloading the game now because the first dl stopped with 1 meg to go
i was pretty annoyed, i can tell you...
anyway, it's sounding good from the replies so far, i hope to enjoy it
p.s. just a small point, there's no such thing as centrifugal force
http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file...=ArmyOps190.zip
im sitting at 60k using flashget

thanks for recommendation
download almost finished
i love broadband :D
me too, the only thing is you find yourself looking for things to download, and half the stuff u dotn even need?
the best thing for me so far about broadband is being able to 'stream' two 192k songs at the same time :D
3rd Gen Noob,
I am glad you are checking out AA.
Ahh but there is! There is such a thing as centrifugal force.
Centrifugal force (Mech.), a force whose direction is from a center.
centrifugal force
n.
The apparent force, equal and opposite to the centripetal force, drawing a rotating body away from the center of rotation, caused by the inertia of the body.
Dictionary.com
Enjoy!
sorry to tell you, CPL_P_USMC, however, centrifugal force is an imaginary force
it's used as a way to explain a force called "centripetal force"
centripetal force does exist, however, centrifugal doesn't
edit: beaten to it...:P
I had a problem with flashget. It messed up MYIE2.
tee-hee. physics does teach us something then. :)
the most interesting thing i learned about physics last years was bose-einstein condensatesQuote:

interesting ready, in a scientific kind of way...
anyway, off to play aa...
3rd Gen Noob,
None the less, centrifugal force is opposite to the centripetal force and centrifugal force is what happens to a M203 round. It spins and it's inside mechanism moves outward(a force whose direction is from a center). opposite to the centripetal force, drawing a rotating body(203 round) away from the center of rotation, caused by the inertia (spinning) of the body(203 round).
